But your happy to upload it to a dodgy American company with a track record of privacy invasion and an inability to protect all that data

#confused
Which is part of the reason why I've decided to move to a better ecosystem so that I can begin cutting ties.

Phone has arrived. Can't wait to get stuck in. Just one problem, though: WhatsApp chat history. Still nothing official from Meta regarding it for some reason (probably the bad blood between them and Apple has something to do with it).

I'm also not going to use any 3rd party software to do it, because I'm not keen on volunatarily uploading all my private conversations to some dodgy Chinese company.

So, it looks like I'm going to have to run 3 phones for a while. :(

If you're coming from Android there is no easy way to export your chats over to iOS without some dodgy 3rd party method.

Taking quite some time getting used to the new phone. Haven’t used iOS in about 10 years, and Android is vastly different (and still superior in a lot of ways - majority in the customisation department). Still reprogramming muscle memory for weird things like swiping from the left instead of hitting the back button. Reinstalling and signing back into apps is a PITA (been enjoying the seamless transition from one Samsung to the next for years). The iOS keyboard is ass - I think it’s going to be the biggest adjustment. And haven’t figured out yet how to move the keyboard back down out of the way - if that’s even a thing in iOS.

Physically, the phone just feels premium. It’s surprisingly a LOT heavier than my S10. Audio is night and day better on this phone.

Apps seem to run better generally - I guess finally how they were meant to? Having said that: why the hell are there ads every few posts on the MyBB app?! There are zero ads anywhere on Android.

It will eventually become my daily driver, if I can ever figure out how to get my WhatsApp messages transferred over.

I use Tapatalk for the reason you mention, ads are a pain.

I think once you're more used to it, some of the gripes will go away, but it definitely is a difference experience to an Android device.

Cheers, will give Tapatalk a try.

Get Swiftkey for iOS. Much better keyboard.

I always stick on my concept that we are purchasing phones not because of usage but because we want to maintain status quo

Did you maybe have some add blocker on you other phone? I have 0 adds on mybb - but also use AdGuard

No I didn't. Installed the Tapatalk app as advised, and it's full of ads, too. Noticed that the MyBB app on the app store hasn't been updated in over a year, though.

Why bother with the app? Xenforo scales really well onto the phone screen.

AdGuard DNS is pretty good because it blocks in app ads except for the ones on your Twitter, Instagram or YouTube timeline. Been using that for many years now

Anyone else notice FNB milking the iPhone shortage? 10k more for an iPhone 13 Pro 256gb. Leaves a bitter taste….

Apple warns suppliers over dwindling iPhone 13 series demand

According to industry sources quoted by Bloomberg, Apple has informed its suppliers that demand for its iPhone 13 series has slowed down and it will further cut production estimates. Previously, Apple cut down its iPhone production estimates for this year from 90 million to 80 million due to the ongoing chipset shortage and it now seems those numbers will be revised yet again.

One of the big reasons why Apple is seeing lowered demand is because consumers are deciding to skip on buying the hard-to-get iPhones. Despite the ongoing struggles analysts predict a record holiday season for Apple with projected Q4 sales totals of over $117 billion or 6% better than the same time last year. Apple’s key component suppliers and assembly partners have yet to comment on the matter.

And yet at the same time it's reported that Apple is now the biggest smartphone brand in China.

Most interesting thing I found out recently is that it's the number one brand in Japan, too (like over 60% market share). But mainly because Samsung disrespected Japanese cultural icons with their emojis. They hate them so much that Samsung had to rebrand to "Galaxy".
