How is battery life on the Pro's?

More reports coming out that the iPhone 14 will be basically an iPhone 13 with a better camera and upgraded Ram
The battery life with my 13 Pro Max is insane. I've never owned a phone that comes within a mile of this battery life. And the reviews reflect this. The Pro Max model this gen has received plenty of attention for its bonkers battery life.

Two days if no App is running or two days when the phone is off
What are you talking about? The 13 series has been a big jump in battery performance. The Pro Max is godlike and set a new benchmark in battery life. The regular Pro is still very good and even the 13 Mini doesn't have the crippling battery issues of the 12 Mini.

None of the 13 series phones should have poor or even mediocre battery life.

Some random information...

I have the space grey 13 Max. All my iPhones have been space grey, but apparently the silver colour is pure stainless steel, so there is no anodised coating on the stainless steel to give it a colour.

This comes in handy if you start to get light scratches on the stainless steel frame. On the silver models, you can polish them back to a mirror finish using stainless steel polish, as it's the bare stainless steel itself - there is no anodised coating. If you do this with any other colour, you'll wear the coating off - so you're pretty much stuck with scratches on the frame on all colours except the silver model.

Silver is the winner.
I have honestly come to the conclusion that my next iPhone needs to be Silver, mainly due to the fact that it looks incredible in a tan leather case, but your point above just makes it even more of a reason to get it.

Bought my mom an iPhone 13 Pro Max in silver yesterday. Wow, I hugely prefer it over my blue colour. My next iPhone is a silver one for sure.
In my next life I want to be your mom (see on the other thread she also got your MBA) :ROFL:

On the topic of cycle counts, I swear this must be a bug - 663 cycles and still 100% health?

In contrast, my MBA is on 89% health after 76 cycles:

Hi everybody, I have been an Android user for decades (don't hate me...) but as a Discovery Bank client just can't say no to a free iPhone. My question to you is:

Since the 14 Pro will likely be out of the free price range, does it make sense to rather get an iPhone 13 Pro instead of an iPhone 14? If so, based on past experience, will there be stock of the iPhone 13 Pro after the iPhone 14 launches, and will the iPhone 13 Pro price drop after the launch?

There won't be much of a price drop from the 13 to 14. Maybe R2k max depending on the model.

I waited almost 2 months for stock for the iPhone 12 Pro Max after its release, and about a month for the 13 Pro Max after its release last year.

There are rumours that the iPhone 14 may be delayed this year due to manufacturing constraints;

Well then - we might as well call off the rest of 2022 now that the best of has been decided... in June.

My personal opinion on this is as follow:

To me it makes more sense to get a 13 Pro than the non-Pro 14. All rumours point to the 14 non-Pro models having the same design, processor etc than the 13 range. Only the 14 Pro will have a new processor and other goodies. Having a Pro model over a non-Pro model has a few advantages.

Will there be stock of the 13 Pro after the 14 launches? Difficult to say, especially nowadays with stock shortages of everything. I've seen the 12 Pro on sale via a few outlets when the 13 range launched, but then I also tried to source a SE2 for a family member before the SE3 was even launched and couldn't find any stock anywhere. So it's difficult to say, it all depends on stock levels of the 13 Pro and if there are any left after the 14's launch locally.

Will there be a price drop? Also difficult to say. In recent years I have not seen the outgoing model of any given iPhone really dropping in price when the successor came out. The concept does not appear to be in play anymore, at least when it comes to iPhones (and especially the Pro models) in South Africa. The non-Pro models might go this route, when the 13 range came out the non-Pro 12 became a more affordable model in the line-up, same might happen with the non-Pro 13.

My advice - if you need/want the 13 Pro now, go get it now. I've said it before, this "waiting for the new one" or maybe in your case "waiting for a price drop" is overrated, smartphones are expensive no matter how you look at it. Maybe the 13 Pro will be R50 p/m cheaper on a contract or R2000 cheaper in price...but it might have gone up with that amount between now and then. And in a little over a year's time the 14 is going to be old news in any case :ROFL:

Thanks, I appreciate the detailed response. 13 Pro it is. Now to wait for stock of the 128Gb...

The iStore and Digicape always drop the price of the outgoing model, which is on par with what Apple themselves do when they release a new model (usually drops by $100 - $150).

The 64GB iPhone 12 cost R18,999 on release, with the price dropping down to R15,499 shortly after the release of the 13;

Good choice I think, the 13 Pro will probably still have some features that might not make it to the normal 14: 120hz screen, LiDAR, 3 camera modules etc.

That is because the 12 remained part of the lineup officially, but it got a price drop because it was now a generation older. I’ve not seen the same with the run out 12 Pro stock (and if there was a drop on those, it was minuscule).

Already back in 2018 when I tried to source an X when the XS already launched in SA, I eventually found one but there wasn’t any discount on it.

Each previous generation remains part of the official line-up. Apple has always kept the two latest generations in active service.

So with the release of the next gen, Apple drops the price of the outgoing model? You said the older gen doesn't get a price drop;

Apple always drops the price of the previous generation when the new one is released. As I said it ranges between $100 and $150 depending on the model. The iStore / Digicape locally follow the same pattern, with the 64GB 12 being R18,999 on launch and dropping to R15,499 with the release of the 13.

R2,500 is a drop in price whether you find it substantial or not.

Where did you source from? An official outlet like the iStore or Digicape? Or some random 3rd party store?

The iPhone X launched at R20,499 for the 64GB model in 2017 then dropped to R18,999 with the release of the XS in 2018;

The outgoing models always drop in price.

It is only the non-Pro models that remain part of the line-up, the non-Pro 11 remained part of the line-up when the 12 series came out, not the 11 Pro. Same with the 12 series - the non-Pro 12 is still part of the lineup but the 12 Pro not.

So yes, in the examples you provided they do get a price drop but it is because they remain part of the lineup, that is why I said I do not see price drops on outgoing models, if the non-Pro 11 or 12 stick around as part of the lineup they are older gen but not "outgoing"/being discontinued, but Pro models are and I've not seen price drops on those. So if there are last remaining stock of a 12 Pro and a 13 Pro gets launched, chances are slim for the 12 Pro to be sold at a lower price. And since the member that was asking, was specifically asking about the 13 Pro, that is why I said I don't think there will be a price drop.

Sorry if I was not more clear on the issue, but I hope you understand what I'm trying to say with my explanation above.

As for the story around the X, I got it through a Chatz Connect outlet in Fourways. At the time, I really struggled to get one. None of the iStores in the whole of Gauteng had stock, and I phoned quite a few Vodashops and other outlets etc, in all of Pretoria/Midrand/West Rand, nobody had stock. I got the last one from the store as mentioned above. It was on contract though, but still at the same tariff as before the XS launch. Digicape did not cross my mind as they are based in Cape Town (I believe they do have a JHB branch nowadays?)

So if iStore did have a price drop on them at that time, then so be it, but yeah then it didn't really help that they did not have stock on it. And if price drops of discontinued models do happen, I still don't think it is a general rule or something to bargain on.

Thanks @bluepoole, very helpful. The deed is done and I am in the process of migrating from Android to the 13 Pro. iOS is fast, smooth and simple and most apps look better so much happiness so far. Some little niggles like no back button, no 3.5mm headphone jack, having to use iTunes to browse (some) files from a PC, not being able to see stored WiFi passwords or manage known networks but I believe iOS 16 will sort that out.

Any advice on a good cover? Thinking of getting this.

Did you end up getting the 128GB? Where did you find stock (assuming you're in CT)
