Iphone 2 just announced!

On the Vodafone (Vodacom) part... Vodafone can't rebrand the iPhone except maybe add a webapp to it, for the rest they can't customise it like they do with SE phones. Thank Apple for that, cause seriously who the ÂŁ*$&^% wants a vodafone branded product anyway.

* Based on 3G and EDGE testing. Actual speeds vary by site conditions. Based on iPhone 3G (8GB) and first-generation iPhone (8GB) purchases. Requires new 2-year AT&T rate plan, sold separately.

Surely you didnt think the actual phone as a standalone would sell for $199? At least we know that Vodacom won't have any choice and they can't have the buyin over $199... If that was the case Apple would shoot their own product the iPod Touch in the foot...which sell for more than that...

Don't think they be able to brand the software, because when Apple releases updates you will be able to do a clean install and erase the phone so branding will be erased as well.

I think it will be locked without a contract so it might still be available for $200, just need to run pwnage to activate the iPhone :D and you're smiling.

Well it looks looks the phone may be available from other e-tailers except for vodacom. A certain systemshock dealer comes to mind ;)

It has HSDPA, not just normal 3G.:D

Which is awesome. I think the data rates being 'twice as fast' was simply a reference to AT&T which according to a report a week or so ago, did not yet support even proper 1.8mbps. *if i remember correctly*

So will the iPhone support our 7.2 HSDPA?

You're guess is as good as any. The fact that its a tri-band UMTS capable chip, one would kinda think that its very likely...? It'll probably cost you though! Something along the likes of the 802.11n enabler software that cost $2 for the Macbook Pro a year+ or so ago. At that stage it had 802.11g, but was capable of 802.11n, with a firmware upgrade.

Hope we get goog price from him, without contracts:D

I hope ZA store will be stocking it, they are the official Apple retailer for SA and the last hope for us, a contract will be needed to unlock officially but pwnage should be able to unlock it unofficially... hopefully.
