iPhone 3G on MTN. SMS Notifications?

Ok, I am sure this is a really stupid question.
Have a local stock iPhone. ATM it is jailbroken and running 2.2.1 and i think I have gotten the hang of most of it.
However the past few days I have had a few missed calls where ppl left me a voicemail. However i am not receiving any form of voicemail notification or any sms's at all.
I can't even find where incoming sms's or voicemail notifications would be?
I am used to going into SMS and having an inbox, outbox, sent etc.
However on the iPhone, if you go into Text, there is only the option of writing a new txt message.
So how do I get voicemail notifications and sms's? Is this an MTN settings thing, or is there something I am supposed to set up?

Appreciate any help or pointing out of what step I stupidly forgot about.

Anyone?
Basically at this point, it seems I cannot sent or receive any sms's on MTN.
No idea where I would change any settings either. I have been through data support with Nashua, and changed sms message centre numbers, but no change.
I just do not know how to set up SMS on the iPhone using MTN.

Is anyone using this phone with MTN and has everything working?
Recently did a sim swap just before I got the iPhone, so not sure which of those 2 things is at fault.
