I've been resisting the urge to rub it in you-all's faces for a few days now, but here I go :D

I love mine. There was a few initial irritations, but they turned out to be "operator error" - every works really nice and smoothly. I like how it would seemlessly switch between wifi and 3G. I love how I can tap on the address in a contact and it takes me straight to the location in the Google maps client. I love how how accurate the GPS is. I love how the mail (multiple accounts) just work. With just about every mail client and every mobile device I've used in my life, there's been some or other teething issue when setting up my IMAP accounts. This just works.

There are few things that I find a bit lacking though. None of the applications support colour profiles, not even Safari. The iPod software seems a bit lacking. On my nano, I have chapters in some of my podcasts, so I can skip between chapters. The iPhone doesn't seem to honour this. I also don't like the way the forward and rewind buttons work. On the nano, they use to skip in short jumps (a few seconds) and if you hold it down long enough, it starts skipping 20 seconds at a time. The iPhone just skips a second or so. There is a slider in it's place, which for the most part works well enough, but for long tracks (like some of the language studies I'm doing) or podcasts, this can be hard to skip back, say, a minute.

Aside from that, not much that my usual nitpicking self can complain about. I certainly don't regret buying one.

iPhone does support Chapters...

But i wont lie... i super jealous!

At night I wish for one thing, I wish I can have an iPhone
price and that it will not be too much.

Yep, I just wish I knew the price, thats all I ask.
Don't you feel sorry for us in SA? *whimper*

 Thats worth it! I take it that you paid in 59pounds once off over an above the 45??

Yes, how much you end up paying for the handset depends on the package you take. On the one I took I could get the 8GB model free or the 16GB model for ÂŁ59 - I went for the latter.

Enjoy it, I would never buy it, I doubt I'll buy it when I move to the States or go across to England. Seems a pity that Apple has chosen to detriment the development of their computing platform for the sake of consumer trinkets.

What sucks more is that its a sim locked phone, so even if you use it prepaid it's still sim locked, going across to another country and swopping
out a sim will not work. You have to roam (groan).

This is just about the most ignorant comment that I have ever heard on the subject.

What detriment? iPhone is expanding the reach of OSX beyond computers (desktop/laptop) and even beyond traditional Apple users (design/multimedia). Sounds like nonsense mate.

There isnt a damn thing in their catalogue, historically or in the present that isnt 'trinkety' so thats a nonsense comment too.

The fact is that what Apple has essentially delivered in the iPhone is the Mac 2.0... face it, embrace it.

Detriment? I think, if anything, the Mac is gaining hugely in popularity because people are far more aware that Apple is around and making really nice stuff.

I'll concede that it's not for everybody. It's not the best phone ever made and no technological breakthrough either. But it is one of the slickests combinations of all the cool stuff I've seen (for me). Probably the only reason why I decided to get one is because I love my iPod, I don't bother with my phone too much, so consolidating the two would be nice (I haven't found another phone whose media player I don't find absolutely frustrating), and I've been looking for something to watch episodes of short sitcoms or whatever on the train to work in the morning. This is a very nice combination of everything I've been looking for, and for the first time, I can properly sync it with my Mac.

Yeah, I'm not exactly raving about that either, but to be fair, I had a bitch of a time finding a "regular" phone on prepaid that wasn't locked unless I was willing to pay a huge premium (here in the UK).

You did hear that Mac OSX Leopard and now Snow Leopard are being delayed or released with additional bugs because Apple is focusing on iPhone development?

I changed to Mac because Adobe Premiere Pro sucked on
Windoze for me. Didn't get a Mac Pro because of the iPod I bought in 2003.
I read the reviews, and decided to go the Mac route. The fact that the iPod
was very cute when it first came out in 2003 was fine but it didn't sway me
one bit. At present I use two other PMPs - none of which are Apple
as they provide superior features and better functionality, the way
the Mac provides superior features and better functionality (killer OS and
killer editing package = FCP) vs PCs.

The fact that the iPod was such a success and now the iPhone is following
suit, only means more people will go out and buy MacBooks and consumer
level products. I don't think Apple will bundle better functionality
into their Pro apps and h/w because every yuppie and his
dog out there is using an iPhone or an iPod.

The iPhone is a nice toy but I wish Apple would focus on their core
business first before becoming a consumer product maker.

As for an unlocked iPhone, it's a pity one can't just buy the stupid
thing unlocked the way one can buy virtually every other Nokia,
Siemens, Erickson, etc out there.

and what is that these days (since they dropped the 'Computer' from their name)?

Times they are a changing . . . :o

Times can change but do they always change for the better
(and is that 'better' for everyone).

If a company gets sidetracked and people buy because of
Job's reality distortion field, that's fine as long as they can
keep up with what their original customers want. If not
- well than that's not better for Mac users, no matter
how many times it's better for the company.

PeterCH, I also bought my Mac for technical reasons, but not everybody, like you and me, have a business reason for buying it. My aunt bought her iBook because she liked the white (I swear). Several of my colleagues were sceptical of switching to a Mac (these are regular desktop users) but ended up getting a MacBook or MacBook Pro after some months with their iPhones.

And as for Snow Leopard being delayed, be fair, Leopard was released less than a year ago. I'd rather have them delay the upgrade to their next big operating system than do a MS Windows ME on us.
