I dunno why amazon doesn't remove this product as the battery is apparently defective. I'd say stay away.

thanks for the help guys! So now the question is how does one go about changing the battery?! I'm going to search the forums for it as someone must've succeeded. I'm sure one can buy a generic battery that'll work well.

ok well called around and it seems like there are a lot of crooks around. phoned Core and naturally they don't support iphone (neither does Vodacom...) but the guy there put me on to a few leads and one of which seemed decent: R540 for a new battery which they will put in and R750 for a new case in case yours is cracking.

So just in case anyone else has had this problem.
