Any news on this? Was it not supposed to launch in SA already?

Only upgrading in Nov, but not sure pay-in will be lower then :(

i think 9th aug is the world wide release date

Vodacom have stated that they are experiencing issues with the supplier, and as a result deliveries are taking longer than usual. From what I can remember, there was no ETA on when exactly it will be released here other that "ASAP."

Mnn.... Apple and their WWDC video said 9 July 2009 - South Africa :(

But many rumours that Vodacom is waiting for OS 3.1 etc.

Well, at least I am only upgrading in November.... Should be released by then (I hope)

Lets just clear something up guys cos i've read loads of people saying this..

Apple never said an exact date in July..

If you look at the WWDC slide carefully, you will see it in fact says "' '09 " and not just "09". Where " ' " implies the shortening of the year 2009

So they said July 2009, not July 9th.

Meet someone from Vodacom Thursday night at a event . And he said not even the guys within Vodacom know when the 3GS will arrive.

*Sigh*
iPhone 3G S. . .so close yet so far away.A contact at Metro,Vodaworld told me that they would be rolling out the 3GS in the first week of August.I'm quite sure this could be the estimated release of the phone.
And they MIGHT also be waiting for ver3.1 of the OS but he could'nt tell me because he did'nt know exactly what the case was, typical vodacom.Well I do hope its before September. If not,I'll be waiting for that too-seductive-for-its-own-good Omnia HD.

Guys everyone at Vodacom is silly.

When you dial the the upgrade department of the helpline they tell the next Apple shipment is due 1st week of August an they'll be 16gb White models.

However, what they don't tell is that this shipment is of 3G NOT 3GS models even if you originally asked for the 3GS.

I went to a Vodashop in Durban and the saleperson there showed me on his computer the actual memo received from the Vodacom warehouse. The memo states that the iPhone 3G 16gb (White) is due to land in the 1st week of August and nothing is known about the 3GS.

So while I'm still holding on till the 6th of August for my upgrade (when Vodacom changes their 'deals') if I don't hear anything I'm going to get the 16gb 3G - the 3GS is just not a big enough upgrade to warrant waiting for like this in my opinion. I've been using a 1100 for the last 4 months coz I dropped my iPhone 2G 16gb in the toilet so I really don't mind a sexy white 3G :)

Truth be told my arm is twisting heavily to just go in tomorrow and get an HTC Magic coz Android looks so awesome and different - I just wish Vodacom had them in white coz I probably would have take one already :)

This lack of service doesn't do much for my confidence... I plan to move my entire company to Vodacom as soon as the 3GS is released... but I'm starting to think this may not be a great idea.

Apparently stock of the 3G (8&16GB) lands in stores this week with the 3GS following in mid August...thats what the iStore told me?

Whatever....I am going to the UK end of March next year and will pick up the latest iPhone available at the time over there, then unlock and jailbreak it this side. It's a complete ripoff here as well and I don't want to fund SA's economy. Zuma will just pay for his 50th wedding with that money.

this is so annoying if its true. Vodacom's PR sucks. Apple made a mistake by making them the sole supplier.

They made a mistake by offering it in SA at all. Honestly, who would the perfect supplier be? Cell C doesn't offer 3G, MTN has **** service, as does Vodacom. We actually need a decent network in this country, not run by locals.

I wouldn't listen to the iStores because as far as I know they don't handle the iPhone stock. Vodacom do. Apple ships to Vodacom not to the official iStores.

I've spoken to the guys at the iStore in Gateway and they always tell me they don't handle the iPhone stuff and that I must go to the Vodashop downstairs.

I've been pulling my hair out with this whole iPhone 3GS story. I'm really so over it that I'm just going to get whichever iPhone I can get my hands on first. Anything will be better that the Nokia 1100 I'm currently using (I dropped my 2G iPhone 16gb in the toilet 3 months ago!).

The 3Gs has 256mb of memory, which for anyone who's got a jailbroken iphone and tried bacgrounding apps, will be a dream come true, finally we can run multiple apps in the background without running out of memory.
Who needs push notifications when you can just leave the app running.
For IM apps, this is a godsend, granted, the battery life is gonna get shortened, but thats a concession you have to make..

Here's to hoping that it'll be at least affordable...

Weird..

The day the iPhone was officially released last year I bought it from an iStore, not from Vodacom
