I am trying to set the phone up acquired locally from Vodacom.
Initial instructions say to insert a Sim card with no pin which I did.
I cant get any Vodacom service and it still scrolls in all of the languages saying emergency calls only.

Does this phone require a 64k or higher SIM?
We are currently using a 32k SIM.

MY advice is try a 64k sim card in it, it may well require a 64k sim. Does your sim card work in another modern up to date phone if so, then chance it may be phone , but unlikely so do the extra work and check a 64k sim in there, if that doen work then gotta be the phone.

Congrats on the purchase.

You simply have to connect the phone to iTunes to activte it first using the USB cable provided. Then you should receive signal and can make use of the phone :)

The screen you are seeing with the scrolling languages is the pre-activation screen.

Thanks Fxit. It occurred to me in the middle of the night that that's may be what's required. This is not very intuitive but anyway! Also, what happens if you dont have a way to remove the pin lock from your Sim card?
Busy downloading Itunes now, hopefully will be up and running soon.

You don't have a way to unlock the pin lock from the sim card? What do you mean by this?

If you've forgotten your pin You could always phone 111 , type in your cell phone number and get your PUK number. Then enter the wrong pin on the phone until it asks for the PUK number. I used to do this on my nokia, iPhone should be the same though?

The instructions say to use a Sim card that has no pin lock to initialise the Iphone.
I used my existing phone to switch off the pin requirement for the sim before inserting it into the Iphone.
If you dont have another phone to turn off the pin requirement then what?

Any, way all up and running now.

Thanks

I think that's just for the noobs :P It just asks you to unlock it when you put the SIM in the iPhone by asking for SIM pin :)

good to hear u up and running!
