i was under the impression the 4.0.2(known as 4.2) is the one after 4.0.1(known as 4.1)...so how do you upgrade that?
/ignores stricken and continues
ok can i simplify things abit here ---
under settings -> general -> about -> version 4.0.2
can that be jailbroken??

Apparently now u can jailbrake 4.2.1 devices
Tethered or untethered?
You probably would need to JB it every time you reboot (I've never had to reboot, but still).
any idea how big the firmware downoad is?
Not too sure mate....just forwarding the info....as i dont have an iPhone anymore but instead an iPad

I just wanna mention that you can only do this if you saved the SHSH's for 4.1.Agreed, download the ipsw file for 4.1 for your device, do not use itunesto update as stated before. In itunes click on update while holding shift and point the browser to the ipsw file that you have downloaded. This will update your device to 4.1. Then simply download limerain and the jailbreak literally takes two minutes to complete.
I don't know about that, the only thing with 4.2.1 jailbreak is it's a tethered jailbreak, which means every time you reboot your phone you have to re-jailbreak.Please note that it is currently possible to jailbreak 4.2.1, but you will need to have saved ssh blobs from 4.2. So until the greenpois0n jailbreak for 4.2.1 is released I would say that 4.1 is still the way to go.
