Hey guys

I bought a iPhone 4 from China, here's the detail:

Model: 16GB
Firmware: 4.1
Simcard: Prepaid Vodacom sim

The phone is able to dial and text but for some reason it's able to connect to the internet, says data roaming is not enabled.

I've changed all the settings to a normal vodacom contracts settings but it's still not working, any help?

When you say iPhone 4, do you mean a real iPhone 4?

Are you sure your SIM is enabled for Internet?

If real iPhone 4:

Go to General > Settings > Network > Cellular Data, and change the first Cellular Data APN to either "internet" or "iphone.vodacom.za" . Try both of those. Also ensure "Data Roaming" is turned OFF in General > Network

Otherwise try calling 111 and seeing if they cant help you out.

Bwahaha - yes it is a real iPhone 4

The phone is actually my bosses phone, I work for a Chinese mining company in Kathu and they constantly ask my why they can't connect to the internet... And it's getting annoying!!

I am not sure if the sim is enable for internet? Do you actually get sims which is not enabled? All I now is it is a prepaid sim, will phone vodacom and ask.

I've already tried changing the apn to "internet" but it's still not working, also changed the settings to my exact settings on my iphone but for some reason it won't work.

@Enigma243, I've got my own iphone 4 from vodacom, so I', not that brave or stupid :)!

Thanks fxit for the help, I just thought it had something to do with jailbreaking or the phone is locked or something like that which I'm not so familiar with.

No prob man. Most likely the prepaid SIM is not provisioned for internet access. If you call up 111 from the phone itself and ask them to enable it, it usually can be active from a few hours to 24 hours. They should advise you accordingly. It's not anything to do with jailbreak or the phone being locked though (which it shouldn't be)

(And check that Data Roaming option is off too ;) )

From China? Maybe it's censored, Great Firewall of China? Try writing to Hu Jintao and tell him you in SA so that he removes the phone from the black list
