Currently I have an iPhone 4 and top up 275 (+110MB data) contract. I want to take advantage of Vodacoms' new R149 offer for 2GB data a month.
Firstly, will I be able to make that contract work on my iPhone seeing that I don't need a modem cause I have a micro sim inserted in my phone?
Secondly what do I do if I bring back an Ipad 2 from the States in June. Will I be able to get another micro sim on the same R149 contact to use with the Ipad?

Hope you can advise me.

You can always do a sim swop to a micro sim if you have too, or if you are feeling adventurous you can cut a micro sim from a regular sim yourself.

Thus one voice contract for my iPhone and one data contract that can be used simultaneously on my iPhone and soon to be iPad 2?

Don't need second sim - or 3G iPad 2!

you don't need second sim - or 3G iPad 2!
you must just buy a wifi iPad 2, and because of the iPhone 4's new personal hotspot feature, you can turn that on and your wifi can connect to your iPhone4's wifi network! its that easy, and will save you money on the ipad and money on the data! :)

you can borrow my micro sim cutter when/if it eventually arrives from dealextreme

Vodacom also launched the dual sim (or whatever it's called). Allows you to use multiple sims on the same contract. Thus a single bill. Just more convenient than activating the hotspot. And you save some iPhone battery life too

Awesome. I'll look into that dual sim option. I will just feel better with the wi-fi + 3G iPad option.

Unfortunately dual SIM isnt really practical, I have them.

The network will route voice calls & sms to the card that was activated last. If this happens to be the iPad, you wont recieve them.

Havent found another option yet besides hotspot or seperate contract.

You get a data only sim for the iPad, linked to the same number. Then you don't have that problem.

Hi fxit_man,

Do you have this setup working in practice on Vodacom?

Does it work the same way as dual SIM does, both cards draw traffic off the same contract data bundle/account? Is the network intelligent enough to understand voice/sms must still be routed to SIM A (in iPhone) even it if SIM B (in iPad) came online after SIM A?

If so this is the solution I've been looking for.

Yep. Had it on the old iPad, now taken it out awaiting iPad 2 :)

It isn't a dual SIM, it's refered to as a Data Only SIM. therefore you do not have problems with SMS/calls being routed incorrectly. - at least I never had such issues

Is this option also available on prepaid? Or contract only?
