Hi,

It would appear that the iPhone 4 uses glass to cover the screen. A mate of mine dropped the phone and that glass cover cracked. He got quotes but to replace that seems to cost around R1000.

Does anyone know of a place where one can have it fixed at a more believable price?

That's actually not the worst price i've seen!

Quite a few guys on the forum have replaced their glass on their iPhones (previous models), maybe they could give you some advice here.

You can always order one off eBay with the digitizer (touch screen sensor) and install it yourself, apparently it's not too difficult.

Good luck.

Thanks. Maybe of someone in China can make a replacement from a plastic?

LOL you wouldn't want plastic on there..

[-]You've got to remember the LCD screen is a retina display, so it's naturally going to be more expensive than previous models. I'd say R1000 isn't a terrible price installed/fitted if it is the entire LCD that is being replaced and not just the glass cover.

If it's just the glass cover, well you can pick those up for fairly cheap off eBay - e.g. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Replacement-b...UK_Mobiles_Accessories_RL&hash=item4153823d3e[/-]

I'd think you would want to replace it with the original glass, or the fancy new gorilla glass that the high end android phones are using.

eBay glass will be far less durable.

Just the glass cover cracked. The display below is still fine.

Hmm ok well scrap my last comment.

Apparently, the LCD and Digitizer (touch screen sensors) are fused into one piece. So by removing the digitizer, it's more than likely you will damage the retina display in the process. It is nto recommended either.

So looks like you'll have to buy a new screen + digitizer with a front glass piece. R1000 is a decent price for that.

Good luck.

R1000 is a very very good price...

Quote on the 3GS was R1500 to replace the screen...

I am sure that be using a platic screen you would loose the sensitivty of the screen etc ??

I'm also wondering. Maybe the place quoted my friend on the iPhone 3GS screen instead of the iPhone 4.
