iPhone 4 to arrive mid August

I just wish this whole Iphone 4 launch thing would start to clear up now,
I hate the secrecy and the exclusivity around the whole thing.

I have spoken to MTN retensions, Vodacom Retensions, Vodaworld, CORE and Even Apple US to try to find out when we poor people in africa can expect the damn phone ,
but it is always answered with "sorry my system says nothing about this".

if this thread is correct we will have the phone in 2 weeks , which is very optimistic.

I'm going to the Vodashop at 9am, since they promised last week that they will have pricing on the 1st of August. I'm not very hopefull though... but it should be fun to hear see them squirm

Now the Vodashop staff say they will only know by the 7th of this month whether or not they will go ahead with the sale of the Iphone 4 this month. Apparently network and software testing has been completed... what are the chances that we won’t be in for a disappointment on the 7th?

Like I said earlier, Apple is struggling to keep up with demand, South Africa not a high priority country for them so not so good.

I wouldn't get my hopes up that they will have an answer by the 7th though. Last week they said with confidence they will have pricing on the 1st and the phone will go on sale mid August. 5 days later and the story is quite different.

Anyone heard anything different from any other Vodashops?

Vodacom, as usual, has no idea when the iphone is being launched here (or they don't tell anyone who's customer facing). It was the same with the 3g, 3gs, etc... Maybe ask MTN?

Dunno why all these shops are saying August, I think people are going be disappointed if you believe anything they say, as best I can tell from here in a communication with the Vodacom CEO Pieter Uys he says "All we know at this stage is that we will be getting the first shipment around the end of September / beginning of October"

Then they should seriously have a word with the staff at the Vodashops. Are they incapable of relaying accurate information to their shops?

Edit: Arn't there any Vodacom reps on these forums who would be able to clear this up for the rest of us?

If they confirm when the iPhone 4 will be available, sales of the 3GS will fall off a cliff. That is why they won't say. It's a very common thing with consumer electronics, they almost never announce when stuff is going to be released.

It is possible for pricing to atleast be given (Although this is normally done on launch day) I got an mms from vodacom yesterday offering me an upgrade to a 3GS WHICH I DELETED. But what was interesting is that they told me that the offer expires Aug 6. So come Saturday all the new pricing for upcoming handsets should be out. Holding thumbs iPhone 4 is ganna be on there!

The staff shouldnt have said August as this is not accurate information, no vodacom store this far have received any information about the iphone 4 realese date yet. So why they said August i wouldnt know....

It's obvious that demand for the iPhone 4 is through the roof and Apple has huge supply issues. I just don't think we're getting it in August.

If you read between the lines then it seems to imply iphone4 is better than 3gs; and the difference is drop rates between AT&T and Verizon indicates that the problem is AT&T and not the new apple phone.

What on Earth is the point of keeping this secret? Why, in every other country, the date and price of the iPhone is published well before the time. For some reason, in South Africa, it's a big secret...
