My dad's phone, which is only maybe 6 months old, is no longer charging. Have tried different charging options but none are working. Is there anything we can try or should we just take it in for repairs...and what is the best/quickest place in cape town as my dad needs his phone urgently for wok this week?

6 months old? I'd suffer the inconvenience and take it in to the SP as it's still under warranty.

Is replacing a battery expensive? Have mailed the seller to see what he has to say.

Is there any way to backup the iphone when it's battery is dead? I imagine not. The last backup was lost when my place was robbed a week ago (this has been a great week).

It doesn't work when you connect it to the PC/Mac with iTunes by USB?

How long have you left it on charge for?

Plug it into a wall socket and leave it for at least an hour. See if there is a "Low battery" icon that comes up when you try turn it on?

If nothing at all happens when you plug it in for over an hour - it may not even be the battery. However, since the phone is still in warranty - I would take it back to the SP to have them deal with it.

As for backups - unless he has been making active use of iCloud / iTunes backup - there is no way to make a new backup of the phone while it's off. (Obviously)

Take off the back cover and replace the battery.

Oh, wait...

(PS. Sorry to hear about your week, been having one of those myself)
