This is pure speculation on my part but these are the facts as to why I think this is the case...
My iPhone 4 recently got damaged and it would cost nearly the same to repair (since Apple policy is to replace and not repair and my phone is no longer under warranty) it so my insurance company paid out the amount insured less my excess and told me I could just go buy the phone myself.
So this morning I have been hunting around at Digicape, Vodacom and iStore's all over Cape Town and all give me the same answer. The iPhone is no longer available from Vodacom to purchase as it has been discontinued.
Digicape said its because they suspect the 4S to be coming out soon.
Vodacom sales agent said its because the new iPhone 5 is coming out. Clearly this guy is a bit of a duché since there is no iPhone 5 but I assume he meant the 4S.
iStore merely said they cannot get anymore stock from Vodacom.
So this leads me to assume that due to the above shortage, the 4S must be launching soon. Perhaps the next month or so in time for Christmas?
