iPhone 4S no sound except ringtones works

HI All

I got the New iPhone 4S
No sounds work on my iphone except ringtones. Text tones, email, itunes, pandora, etc. does not play anything. Also, when I hit the volume buttons I get a picture of the speaker and it says "ringer" over it but there is no volume bar. I've cleaned out the headphone jack since that fixed a no-sound problem on previous iPhones but it didn't help.
I've tried turning bluetooth/wifi on and off because this seemed to help for some people but the only thing that helped with is that my phone now makes the noise when you plug it in to charge but still nothing else but ringtones.
Even tried restoring old IOS still nothing, then back to latest IOS.
Problem with mine is that it is intermittend, will just come back for a while then stop again.

Double tap home button twice, scroll to the far left (past the orientation lock and music controls) and check if the volume there is not muted.

Did that wont allow me to adjust , mute or un-mute.
 
Yeah, I got a 32gb 4s a couple of weeks ago that was permanently stuck in headphone mode. Got it Monday, returned it Tuesday morning, it was replaced 2 weeks later with a new one..
 
Maybe its the switch on the side of the phone. If its not switched to mute, then there is something wrong with the phone. My advice is to take it directly to Core in Jet Park. If its not possible, then follow the normal route. I took in an iPad 1 that had a sticking home button there last year and got a brand new one 2 days later. I took in my wife's iPad 2 a couple of weeks back for 2 dead pixels and got a brand new one 2 days later. They even will courier it to your door free of charge.

Welcome to MyBB...
Sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with your 4S.

If you still have no luck after trying all the suggestions in the forum -- I'd suggest either of 2 things:
  • Take your phone back to your provider for replacement
  • I'll assist you to get a bug logged with Apple (no guarantees), but in my experience the Apple staff are fairly responsive and will provide some type of response to this; and its a given that logs, etc. will be required and you will have to live with the issue whilst they diagnose it. If this is the route you'd like to explore then PM me

My brother had the same thing with his new iPhone 4 out of the box.

He returned it to MTN and new phone did the same... finally got a new swap-out that worked... luckily the store had stock.

Thank for welcome.
I will take it back to my provider as its only about two weeks old.
Hope they will replace it, spoke to some one at apple and say just said i have an issue with ringer .
He already new about it, said was a common issue with 4 and some 4s are having issue, said is a hardware problem.
So let me see hope will swap it out as im not the only one with issue.

If i don't come right will PM you, thank you again for your assistance.

I hope they got stock to, i have the white one hahaha.
