so ive had this since last week. first apple device. my concern is that when im checking mail, twitter, surfing, etc. anything using the internet connection basically. my battery % visibly descreases as i am online. its very disconcerting.

i was under the impression that the iphone 5 has a decent battery. i had onavo vpn installed and this was killing the battery. so i uninstalled that but now the battery is lasting longer. i have set email to manual updates since its a bit of a distraction when emails are coming up all the time.

so every couple of hours i check mail and follow a couple of links. boom almost 5% gone. is this normal behaviour? i spoke to the guy at the shop where i got it and he suggested i go to an istore to have it checked. then we can book it in if the need is there. its less than 7 days so i would want a swop out. disappointing experience.

other than this it is a very good device though. took some getting used to going from android to apple. paying R8 for whatsapp nearly gave me pulpatations. still have to buy tapatalk as well. the joys...

edit. location services are off, wifi is on but inactive - joins home network when in range and dont want to be toggling this on and off all the time. brightness is at 30% - 40%.

I get about a day's usage out of a full charge. Wifi and 3G is always on. Some location services are on. Email set to push. And the odd game here and there. Brightness set to auto.

I had dreadful battery life but reinstalling the OS seemed to cure that problem and I'm ending the day with about 40% left whereas it was usually dying in the early evening.

BTW the new Tapatalk 2 is on sale for 99¢ for a limited time. I prefer it to the original.

I took my iPhone 5 out the charger at 05:30 this morning, it's 11:48 now and it's on 90% power. My usage this morning was however limited i.e. 2 calls of about 5mins and probably 30mins of browsing on 3G. I charge my phone every night and never saw it go below 30% even on heavy use days.

The wife however is on a 2 day recharge cycle on her iPhone 5, normally close to 0% on the 2nd night with "normal" usage during the days i.e. calls, internet via 3G, Wifi etc.

It is however difficult to judge these things, but thusfar I'm happy with the battery.

Battery is lasting from 6am to 2am or thereabouts. Sometimes it will be giving me that 20% warning by then.

last night at past 10 was at 35% i think. plugged it into the charger then. plugged it out at 1am already i think @ 100%. but i utilize wifi for surfing at home so battery goes slower. the 3g/mostly 2g conneciton that chows the battery

I also had battery issues... 6.0.2 helped. What I'm noticing is that I'll use my phone for a while, playing poker, checking whatsapp and facebook then I'll turn the screen off and put it inot my pocket, only to pull it out 10 minutes later to find its still warm (maybe even warmer) and about 10% battery gone.

i only learnt how to close apps on sunday :D. i was just pressing menu and assuming they were closed. helps with data usage as well. now when i am done with a session i go to the task bar and close all of the apps i opened. can i just say how irritating it is that apps dont have a close option. much more efficient than going to the task bar and closing.

I've used plenty apple products normally they use very little resources when asleep, I have been closing apps down as you described, but I'm used to just pushing home button and forgetting about it.

PS. I like how iOS handles apps, I find no fault in double tapping home and deleting running apps.

Expecting more than a day from any Smartphone is a bit too much.

If you are charging it over night and it last until the next night then your battery is doing pretty well.

And I've never closed an App on my iPhone 4S since I got it, don't see the need to.

100% is never really 100%.

Let it charge overnight, there's no reason to take it off the charger sooner.

If I had that phone I'd leave it in standby too. :p

Erm its not in standby, I actually use it everyday instead of my other phones (WP 610, iPhone 4, SGS2, HTC Desire) purely because of the awesome battery life. But this is not an OS pissing contest, I mearly pointed out that you do get smartphones that last well over a day.

the app switcher dock is a list of recently used apps, not running apps. remember apps can only be active in the background for certain processes and the OS manages memory autonomously.
