After getting and using a Macbook for sometime I saw the light and decided to invest in an iPhone 5s. It is a simple 2nd hand one and not new and so I have some slight issues already. The back story is a very sad one that I will not waste time going into it. I got it in "good" condition though. Not locked or anything and have been able to set it up and put my apps and basically use it as my daily driver. One issue though of concern is my battery/battery indicator seems to be acting up.

I would have the phone at say 100% and as long as i don't it, it remains there. Standby time is very good. Slight use however i will see 99% then before i know it 93%. It will discharge in such a manner. attimes behaving for some time discharging normally the erratically do a massive drop like from 90% to 83% and before i know it i'm in the 70% region.

Does this mean my battery is at fault or the phone is at fault? The phone itself seems to function fine and the main issue i have seen beside this battery issue is the phone would freeze momentarily and not respond unless i press the top power button once then press it again. (basically put it into sleep mode and out of sleep mode.)

Should I be worried/concerned. Is there a remedy for such? Other than that its my first iPhone and so far everything works as expected and i'm enjoying it.

It's the battery. Go to your local repair shop and they will charge anything between R150 and R600 depending on where you go

Thanks for that @ahoudet. I had asked think about a week ago just out of curiosity as i was asking for accessories and those were roundabout the figures I got.

What IOS version you on? Sometimes upgrading to latest software helps the battery issue.

I upgraded to 9.3.3 this afternoon. Mind you i had chosen to update like 3 days ago but for some weird reason it didn't update. I just saw the update icon rotating slowly but nothing happening. Then today in the evening it just started working. All by itself. Otherwise the update went well and the phone feels smooth and more snappy or responsive.

Could be that the battery is not calibrated, check online for a guide for the iPhone.

When you did the update did you do a fresh install or OTA update? Maybe try to backup your phone and then do a fresh install of iOS.

Also what carrier you using? I know some people have complained of rapid battery loss when using certain carriers - never happened to me tho so just a thought.

I updated 2 days ago but i had the issue even before updating. I went with the small OTA update of about 56MB not a fresh install. I'm on MTN which I am currently loving to bits due to LTE network and speeds. Perhaps thats the main reason for rapid drain somehow. Will try post pics of battery usage too. it may shed some light and someone may spot something i'm missing perhaps. I'm on WIFI about 85% of the time sometimes all day.

It's the battery. Exact same issue on my 5. Changed battery for 400 bux and its sorted.

Thanks for the heads up. Still using it as is, while I collect funds. I love tech things and there is a whole lot of things I want to get also but when good and ready I will get a battery. In the interim I try manage the situation as best as I can. It also helps that the battery lasts for the better part of the day so most days I'm good.

No problem what I noticed about 5s the wireless drops drastically.

Not on my end. infact it is quite impressive how it holds onto a WIFI signal irrespective of distance. I just reckon that even though I have had it for liek 2 months. I want to get an SE now.
