iPhone 5S order with MTN

Hi there,

So as you know, all the service providers have pretty much setup iPhones 5C/S pre-registration pages, with Vodacom taking orders already. On the day that pre-registration for MTN opened up (29 October) I immediately 'ordered' my 5S (The MTN pre-registration is more like an order, as you get to pick which phone you want).
I shortly received an email thereafter stating that I would be contacted by an agent within the next THREE days to proceed with the order, after being vetted through a credit check. It has been 12 days since and I've heard NOTHING so far.

I just want to know if anyone who pre-registered with MTN has received a call yet? I'm getting worried now since the iPhone releases on Friday!!

Drop MTN and get cellc, I pre-registered with MTN to get the iPhone5 after they phoned me and asked if I was interested... I got it from a cell c shop (on a sweet contract) on the release date. MTN phoned me back 2 weeks later asking me if I was still interested.
 
I love the way MTN insinuate one cannot cancel your pre-order - the one where there is no price next to it. Yes, I completed a pre-order for a gold 5S 32GB at R0.00pm. I have a screenshot as proof.

@OP: I never got any feedback either.

I knew I should've ordered with Vodacom. I stayed up all night on pre-order day till the pre-order page appeared and then decided to go with MTN anyway since I have my current contract with them. I would have gotten the gold one that I wanted if I ordered with them, since people were saying that they were contacted within a few hours to confirm their orders!

I contacted MTN and told them about my situation. They have just responded to me not long ago and said that the pre-registration page was a mistake. It was not meant to be a pre-order page and no agent will be contacting me lol. They also said that it was actually a normal a pre-registration where I will be told when to order and that I do not have any preference now.. Oh and prices will only come out on Friday, on the day of launch, and only then can we order it :(

How sad.. Why can't they do it like Vodacom where pre-orders started already and you will get your phone on the day of launch??

im in the same boat as you with Vodacom. Did my preorder on the morning of 8th(after staying up till after 12 when preorders should have opened, but never did).
Also now waiting for a call from vodacom to finalize the deal, for some reason you cannot call them as there is someone with a list calling everyone who preordered the 5s. really weird way of doing things, why is the whole process not just done online!

Wow I thought Vodacom was supposed to contact the people who ordered within 24 hours? What you should do is tell them your situation on either Twitter or Facebook. Believe me, they will respond to you and sort out everything. Take a look at their Twitter page right now and you will see how many iPhone 5S orders they have resolved for their clients!

MTN is only opening order books on the launch day on the 15th, so at least on Vodacom you will have the phone before everyone else!

I have pre-ordered with them all, and have only received a response from MTN :(

Nothing from Vodacom, Telkom Mobile, or Cell C in regards to my filled in "pre-register page on our website"
 
Probably the best to do is speak to your local branch ask them to book one for you.

There is always a problem with the service providers when a new iPhone gets here. It's getting really annoying..

I'm guessing that the response that you got from MTN is the same one as me saying in an email that you will be contacted within 3 days to process your application? I've contacted MTN and they've said that they made a mistake in sending out those emails and it's simply a pre-register :(

I've been to my local MTN everyday so far and they've still said that they've received NO INFORMATION on the iPhone in South Africa as yet and that information will probably only be released on launch day. That's what MTN SA has also told me when I emailed them..sigh

Quick update.

I have yet to be contacted by anyone in regards to this. lol. Even my queries have resulted in fail safe replies. "You will be contacted before it is released, I assure you" And, "Let me get back to you on this"

Sorry to hear about it. You should have just went into a store and purchased it. I woke up very early on launch day and got mysely the gold one!! It's gorgeous :love:

Nice one! I unfortunately stay a distance away from any stores :( Also work prohibits me from going. Hence the online applications.

I called MTN again yesterday, and was told my order is on their system, she will contact the guy to phone me ASAP. I have yet to hear from anyone in regards to it.

So yeah, out of all of the providers, I have heard the "we will call you now now" from Vodacom and MTN, only to never come through, and the others haven't got a hold of me at all.
 
anyone else here received their iphone yet?
i did my preorder, got in to contact with vodacom corporate on the 15th and was told the phone has just been launched so they dont know when theyre gonna get stock
the best part is, a guy in our office who has an mtn contract, didnt do a single thing, just phoned our local mtn branch the morning of the 15th and went to pick up his phone the afternoon!
 
I went to view the 5S in person. The gold one is disappointing, more of a bronze and not eye catching at all.
 
So after 15 days having placed my online pre-order for a 5s 32GB Gold, I've just received a call offering me the 16GB in Silver or Space Grey only. No stock of 32GB or 64GB and no Gold either. Sigh.
