Hi Guys I am looking into getting an iPhone from the US, does anyone know which model will play nice with Vodacom LTE?

Here is a list
Model A1687
Model A1634
Model A1699 (GSM)
Model A1699 (CDMA)

A1687 is the "world" model. It's the model for Europe and most of the world and also on Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint in the US. I'm pretty sure it is also the model that will launch in SA.

This year all iPhone 6s/+ models work in the same bands however the AT&T model (1633/1634) also includes band 30. It doesn't matter which model you get, they will all work.

It is, and normally the EU model was the one to get. The US GSM model however has the extra band as Dave123 posted.
Worthwhile if you travel to the US regularly and use the AT&T network as they are the only ones that use that band.

Bit of a thread resurrection...

I'm heading to the US in a few days time. Bought my dorrahs some weeks back and with the Zim Rand tanking like it is, I'll buy a 6S (not the Plus) while I'm Stateside.

Which model is the ideal one? The "world" model (which is the A1688 in the case of the 6S) or the A1633? Don't want to land up with a dud phone once I return home and try to use it on Vodascum. Can anyone confirm the model number of the 6S that is sold locally?

Any 6s from an Apple Store or off Amazon that says 'unlocked'. AFAIK the issues are with the vendor/SP ones like ones sold by AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, etc. which are locked to their networks.

All full price phones sold from Apple are unlocked, even on launch day, and no matter what they say (AT&T, Verizon, etc).
If you buy from BestBuy or the cell provider direct they could be locked, some of them aren't but you need to read up about it first.

The best phone to buy is the AT&T one from the Apple store, it has the most bands from all the iPhones.
