iPhone 6s

Surely in order to ascertain true resale value one has to take into account the selling price through authorized resellers rather than people desperate to flog their upgrades for cash? inevitably Apple have created a halo brand which demands higher than average pricing at inception and the knock on is better resale however if one compares to Samsung their pricing strategy seems to be to drive pricing down fairly quickly after launch and supply and demand has equalized which effects resale. So one could get a 6 week old Samsung device through authorized resellers at a substantially discounted price, the same can't be said for Apple. Search the net, not too many truly great deals on Apple although there were no shortages of the 6s.

I'd love to stay with Apple but I won't be paying R20k for a phone and I'm not that keen on the upfront discount vs risk that is associated with buying on the used market even if the device is new - simply too much risk of the contract holder defaulting etc. I'm sure there are great deals to be had but I imagine Apple are in for tougher times than the other major players in SA as or *** currency ruins everything.

Other brands will be suffering from even more depreciation then if using authorised prices. I go by what is best value to the individual.

That's istore aka core...

So what? According to Core your phone is worth 50% after a year. You can obviously sell it for more privately, but the idea that Apple products hold their value better is pretty silly.

If core had their way we'd pay 10x the actual value for phone and then pay them to take it back.

Ignoring the fact that you can sell an iPhone privately for substantially more than another brand is not only silly, it's ignorant.

I think ultimately the decision to purchase a phone is not really dependent on resale value. Nice to have but upfront cost is likely more of a factor.

I may as well add my experience to this thread as I change phones often enough.

S6 Edge Plus will sell for 7k whereas a 6S sells for 8k. Apple has silghtly better used resale values. You'll probably get R500 to R1500 more for an iPhone over Samsung. Sony is worse

Tried to get my cheapskate SO to get a iPhone 6 as her upgrade (coming from a Samsung S4 Mini), no cigar

But that is not shrewd ;)
