I've pre-ordered an iPhone 7 but even I think having to do this is ridiculous - why couldn't they have two ports at the bottom instead?

I believe it was to make space for the new processor and bigger battery.

In the 5 years I've owned a smartphone, I can probably count on one hand the times when I wanted to charge the phone and listen to music simultaneously.

I do understand the other argument of having to buy adapters to use earphones one might have already (and you don't want to use the earphones included in the box)...but technology is advancing all the time, so we have to accept it, whether you like it or not!

Just to clarify, you don't need to buy an adapter to use your old headphones, its included in the box.

Exactly! This is the main reason why I don't understand the b*tching, Apple INCLUDES a small adapter in the box.

I guess people did the same when they started to leave Tape Decks out of car radios.
 
Is removing the headphones jack a step forward? Does it improve the quality? What about using your earphones while charging the phone?

Personally I think everyone will scrap the earphone jack because of wireless tech but I'm not sure replacing it with another proprietary cable is a good idea.

Apple though are pushing their wireless earpods while including the 3.5mm adapter.
