iPhone 8 & iPhone X Thread

As expected bull**** headline says “will” and the body says “may”.

Nobody knows for sure.

I presumed his link was to back up his previous post which I said wasn’t going to happen.

Saw on mybroadband:
IPhone X 64 R20000
In SA mid November
Doing linear regression with US price:
IPhone X 256 R23000

Which it doesn’t even allude to.

went to get an 8+...decided that there is no benefit to me changing from my 6S+, especially when the new contract is R1kpm (256GB, MTN Choice+ S which is the cheapest contract that works for me). I can get the contract on my existing phone for R299pm

This might help for pricing:

SA 8 256gb - R16499
Singapore 8 256gb - R13800

SA 8+ 256gb - R18499
SG 8+ 256gb - R15548

So based on this , SA is 16% more expensive than Singapore.
Pre-order price for IPhoneX in SG:
64gb - R16 500
256gb - R18 888

SA Price at +16% is:
64GB - R19140
256GB - R22 000

I'm in the same boat...

turns out the contract I want (MTN Choice+ S ) is R199 which means the i8 256GB is R800pm from MTN or R19,200

Played a bit with the phone . It's the same experience to a 7 and the 6s before it. Aesthetics wise ... I don't quite like the way apple have done the glass back on these phones. Feels like a step back

The gold is like a cream off white with a gold edge ... The black like a grey pastel colour

I've never owned an apple device and extremely uninspired by the 8 range as many people. But that iPhone X... I dunno I just want it I might jump ship... Apple payment plan of 12 months at 0% interest.... Hmmmmm mm

To me the X doesn't offer enough of a difference to warrant the extra price. The screen is ok, but nothing that hasn't been available in other handsets. Also it doesn't look like the iPhone does the always on display like the Samsung does that shows time and notifications when the phone is off.

That leaves FaceID and having to type in your pincode every time you can't look at the screen.

Will wait for the version next year, for now my iPhone 7 is still functioning.

What’s so special about always on screen? If anything it’s a waste of battery life.

How do you type in the passcode without looking at the screen? Are you that good that you memorized the exact locations of the keyboard?

FaceID doesn’t require you to look at the screen to unlock. You can disable it in settings. All it will then need is to be able to scan your face regardless if you looking at it or not.

True, also the operating system you can already get which will be the exact same experience.

iPhone X is nothing more than the iPhone 8 (which is already the 7) with a different screen.

If the iPhone X isn’t worth buying because it’s boring and nothing more then the 8 and 7, then I wonder what would make the X worth buying feature wise? What would you have liked to see on this phone that would have made you go wow, this really is cool, definitely worth the money.

1. You don't understand OLED if you think that always on takes battery. Only the pixels that aren't black draw power, and for showing things like the time or other notifications you're looking at 15ma at max.

2. The passcode type is for when you can't point the phone at your face - you aren't always going to have the phone inside the boundaries where it can correctly determine your facial features for an unlock (i.e in a meeting room)

1) Ok fair enough, might not draw a lot of power but still draws something even if it’s negligible. This feature is not something I consider a dealbreaker. Nice to have but unnecessary.

2) But you still have to look at the phone in order to type the passcode, therefore your face is within the FaceID sensors and will unlock.

You don’t understand how FaceID works. You do not have to point the phone directly in front of your face, it can be sitting on a table or underneath the table at a meeting. Your face will be in the proximity of FaceID and therefore unlock the phone. And again I say, you do not even have to look at the phone, that is an extra security feature built into FaceID which can be turned off.

I got the iPhone 8 Plus, to bridge the gap until the iPhone X.

That's cute, but as someone that has used an iPhone X over the last couple of days I will remain with my comment about the 8 (or even 7) being a better choice for now.

There is nothing wrong with people that want to buy the X, so go ahead and get it. For me personally it just didn't end up being a must have device.

And where have you used the iPhone X if I may ask?

I call bullsh#t on your statement about using the iPhone X. It has not been launched yet and only very few Apple employees have access to the device. In addition, FaceID only works with one face, so you would have had to remove someone else’s FaceID scan to use it. No one would lend you an iPhone X for a “couple of days” and allowed you to gain access to their phone with FaceID.

So yeah, I don’t trust a word you say. Sure I will go ahead and buy the iPhone X.
