  1. How do you dock your iPhone to your A/V system?
  2. Where did you get your docking station?
  3. What brand/model are you using?
  4. Your review of your dock?
  5. Does it have on screen display and video?

I am looking for a decent dock to use with my Denon receiver. Can't seem to be able to buy the Denon docks anywhere locally.

Fantastic amp compact, clear sound, remote control and charge while playback. I was horrified to see that my friends new iPhone 4 wont work with it though, 'device not supported' message, wtf?!! So be careful with your choice ito compatibility....

couple of questions apply here.

1. how serious are you about your sound?
2. budget?

I am dead serious:). Budget up to $200... but may go up a bit. The yamaha ones look appealing & have some nice user reviews on amazon but obviously won't ship here. And I'm not sure if the yamaha docks work with other receivers.

I have a play station, but I'm mighty pissed off I spent all that time getting my music tagged & art'ed only to find the darn thing doesn't read some of the formats' tags & art. So I'm going for a dock rather, plus it's easier to only have to manage my iPhone music.

How about just the regular Apple dock.
The apple docks got crappy reviews on amazon, but whathifi.com recommend them so I'm a bit torn there.

Which Denon receiver have you got?

My AVR2311 has an ipod compatible USB port, so I just connect my iPhone to receiver with a USB cable.

Ok, if you are dead serious then there are only 2 docks on the market worth considering.

The first is the Wadia Dock. It's over $300 so let's write it off immediately.

2nd, we have the Onkyo ND-S1. It's half the price of the Wadia, and it does the same thing. Why these 2 docks? Because they are the only ones that bypass the ipod/iphone 's internal DAC and sends a digital stream to be decoded by your AVR's superior DAC. Simple.

Maybe just double check Iphone compatibility.

Sure but you have to be sure to use uncompressed music to hear the difference! I reckon the iPhone's DAC is pretty good, but I won't argue, this one's probably better!

email these guys for a quote, they're usually the people i use for onkyo stuff.

Ta. Will email them.
User reviews suggest this may not work with an iPhone:(

That's very nice, but I'm a bit behind, 2308:(

My 2308 was stolen 2 months ago, so I got to upgrade!

Have you tried importing the Denon docks via have2have.co.za or wantitall.co.za or even take2.co.za

Ive got a few docking stations available that I dont use (I insist on always have a cellphone cover on)... R70 if you want. ITs basic really but has line out. Looks nice too. PM me.

From whathifi,
thanks for your reply. After some research on the Onkyo website, I saw that it should work in flight mode. I tried it home and it didn't...would have surpised me, too. I mean, does the iphone give out a different signal when in flight mode??

Maybe you should have pointed out that this dock does not work with iphone (you made reference to it - twice!). Often enough docks will play the tunes (but not charge) although they're not certified 'works with iphone...but this one doesn't!! Big disappointment for me over Xmas...
