An upgraded OS is a lot more likely scenario for me than a new iPhone.

Even though there are rumors out there for a new iPhone in June/July, I personally don't think it's likely to happen today.

Apple would host a much larger event for an announcement so profound.

They changed OS and kept application compatibility.
They changed CPU architecture and kept application, and even driver compatibility.

That's seriously impressive. Microsoft has a hard time keeping application compatibility across OS versions.
