IPv6 Roll Out

I tried requesting for a larger prefix from the router, but the request was not honored, Do I need to contact support to request the prefix or contact your team via mail.
Hi.

You are currently using /62?

I'd like to report that IPV6 on MFN via DHCP is now functional, I switched from PPPOE to DHCP to test if the ICMPV6 issue was resolved and it was, I now have fully functional IPV6, and the leases are now instantly obtained.
I assume your ONT is Calix and not Nokia.

With Vumatel active ethernet with an Object number I can now allocate a dynamic or static /56 pd and ia_na
Morning @Afrigirl

Hope you are well. Happy news, my internet was activated yesterday, can you let me know how I can go about requesting for IPV6 activation with a static /56,

Thanks,
Robert

Hi.

Please send me a private message with your account details so I can check if it has been added. It should be automatically added.

Hi all.

Anyone using a Mikrotik router on Vumatel and has ipv6 working?

Hi all,

So, currently I don't seem to be able to obtain a IPV6 on Vumatel, I have set my interface to DHCPV6 and configured to request a /54, but when I reset I get a fe80 address which is a local link address that the router must be self assigning, Afrigirl has checked my account and apparently everything is setup like it should be.. any hints as to what I might need to be doing..

I don't have an Afrihost supplied device so I'm wondering if I need to set something else up to get it working,

Thanks,
Robert

Hi @MKDaddy

Try and change the prefix delegation size to /56, This is common for residential, and I think it is what AH assigns for Vuma clients.

Can you share a screenshot of your wan interface section, you can blur out any sensitive information

Sure, currently getting a fe80 local link address:

Configuration settings for WAN:

Ok, got it working, toooo many changes at the same time, at one point I turned on request prefix only while trying to get it to work.. so it was actually getting a address, but not assigning it to the WAN interface.

I enabled IPV6 on the LAN and that picked up a 2c0e address which I assume is the correct range

Thanks for the help :)

Glad to hear you got everything working now, the default config should get IPV6 working for you via DHCPv6, the send prefix hint is useful if you need to request a larger prefix if for example the ISP only give a /62, and you need a /56 but they need to honor the request on their end. anyways enjoy the modern internet cheers.

Hi @Afrigirl if I am paying for a static IPV4 address will my IPV6 prefix also be static? I am with you guys on openserve.
I ask because I dont see a way on my mikrotik router to automatically subnet from the dynamically provided prefix and this post seems to indicate it is not actually possible. I can however add the addresses manually but this will break if I ever get assigned a new prefix.
I looks like my prefix is static but would be good to know for sure from you.

Speaking to the mikrotik point.

You can in fact automatically subnet the ipv6 subnets on the mikrotik.
There is however a caveat, these ipv6 subnets are dynamic and can change between reboots etc.
The other is, you can only do one per vlan really, not multiples on the same flat lan so to speak.

When the dhcp v6 client gets an ipv6 ip, it also gets the prefix, and this prefix you then add into an ipv6 pool. Then on each vlan, you can request a range, eg. /64 from this pool.

It is for this reason, I sadly, run 2x ipv6 ip ranges on my internal lan. Static ipv6 ips are from fd00:: range and I literally make it simple. for myself, fd00:vlan-nr::rest-of-ip.

The internet ipv6 ranges I just dish out to give internet ipv6 connectivity and the internal v6 traffic flows mostly over fd00.

Hi.

The IPv6 prefix will not be static, unfortunately we don't offer static prefixes yet.

Hi @Afrigirl are there any timelines for the static prefixes, we have to resort to customer side solutions to make keep the prefix static, which is not ideal because the prefix change breaks a lot of configs.

There is no timeline yet, and our biggest project is to move all clients to PPPoE before the end of next year.
I believe once that is done, we should be able to offer static prefix
