Iran test-fires new missile, Israel, US bases within reach

TEHRAN: Iran said it test-fired a new generation of surface-to-surface missile on Wednesday and was ready to defend itself against any attacker.

Defence Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said the Sejil missile had ‘extremely high capabilities’ and was only intended for defensive purposes.

He said it had a range of close to 2,000 kilometres. That would enable it to reach Israel and US bases in the Gulf. “This missile test is in the framework of Iran’s deterrent doctrine,” the IRNA news agency quoted him as saying. “It will only land on the heads of those enemies,” said Najjar, without mentioning any country by name.

The US denounced Iran’s claimed missile test and warned Tehran to halt its ballistic missile programme ‘immediately’ amid a nuclear dispute with the West.

“We’ve consistently pointed out that Iran’s missile programme is a concern and this testing is another reminder of the importance of establishing a missile defence site in Poland and the Czech Republic to defend the US and Europe against a threat that is developing in Iran,” Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman told reporters. agencies

Well the US will have to continue with the ABM shield then. Russia will continue to be upset. So much for doing things differently from what GWB did.
 
Iran's got the green light. Or as green as they could possibly hope to get.

Oh no. Obama is president now, didn't you see? Ask Alan for more info, but obviously he will let Iran do what they want now. He was even misquoted as saying he will only try talk to them! :confused:

pre-emptive defense. Do you really think that people who stone wrong-doers and have public executions while supporting suicide bombers have peaceful intentions?

Their president has gone on record as saying that he does not believe the holocaust ever happened and that Israel should be wiped off the face of the earth.

nice peaceful guy. I'm sure he has the best of intentions. :rolleyes:

I'm not defending them in any way, merely pointing out that the common "nuke the fsckers" attitude is not much different from theirs.

America has had nukes since 1945, they have used them twice in acts of war. I think if they ever decided to use them again they would show the necessary amount of restraint.

My guess is, that the bombing of Iran will be with conventional weapons.

If they do attack Iran at any point, I am sure you are quite right. They aren't as dof as some of the forumites here.

I'm sure the Isrealis also have a nuclear stash somewhere. They are not that innocent in all this. They also murder, maim and kill innocent ppl on their borders.

They actually the second most powerful army in the world, so even without US support they powerful.... but none the less the US should stay out of it.
