IRC issues with ADSL

Hey all, this is quite a weird problem I have with IRC I want to sort out.

On certain weekdays, 2-3 times a week, IRC will timeout and not reconnect until a couple of hours later. It happens between 10am and 5pm, and only irc stops working on my pc. Websites work, sites webirc's such as mibbit work, but things like CGI irc, chatzilla and mirc just dont connect. If they do, it is incredibly lagged before pinging out.

Everything else works fine during that time. It doesnt happen on weekends, only weekdays.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

I have a Telkom ADSL 512 line, and the problem occurs on thre different ADSL acounts: one being the normal telkom account, the other a solmatrix and when I am capped it happens (like now) on those pick 'n pay 1 gig accounts

I also get this exact same problem. I think it's because with shaped bandwidth, the IRC protocol is not prioritized, therefore resulting in lag and disconnection during peak national usage times. As it is the last day of the month I cannot even connect to an IRC server due to everybodies "end of the month bandwidth usage". Maybe consider some unshaped bw.

Here I thought it would at least fix itself. Now I cant get on till past 10pm at night.

This is complete BS on Telkoms part. It worked perfect for the first few months I had ADSL now all of a sudden I see no point in even having this crap internet connection.

Since that last post it seemed to have got really bad. I thought it was due to the end-of-the-month traffic, but its still bad. I'm now forced to use IRC over HTTP (Mibbit). Yes, I remember in July IRC worked perfectly all the time. This sucks. Telkom sucks.

Have you guys tried an unshaped (or semi-shaped) connection to see if the shaping is in fact the issue?

No way man. I'm on IRC 25/7/366 (kinda) and I have no problems getting on and staying connected at all with my 384k line using a normal shaped SAIX account. It does ping then and again but nothing close to what you are getting. What server are you trying to connect to Nitros?

Are the IRC servers in South Africa?
