I have a new IS 4MB Uncapped (Shaped) account and using it the past week. Now most of you will say "its shaped on certain ports". But let me tell you that it`s shaped on all ports, that is all incoming connections.

Daytime on the 4096 kbps uncapped (shaped): 0.10 - 0.20 Mbps.
Nighttime on the 4096 kbps uncapped (shaped): 0.70 - 1.15 Mbps.

The best of all, their head techie tested the account on their modems and found nothing wrong :wtf:.

When testing on other accounts i have i get FULL 450kbps = 4MB Line. (Telkom Shaped, FNB Connect Shaped and a IS Shaped).

WTF is it with you please at IS? cant you figure out WTF is wrong with your ports!!!

Anybody experiencing the same symptoms?

IS are going to discontinue the 4MB shaped uncapped. We do not have a specific date yet, but it is going to happen. They are also going to introduce new adsl services sometime. My guess is that it is going to happen around end of June.

Weren't you going on about how your new Uncapped account was way better than the crappy MWEB uncapped you used before?

So IS can't compete with Mweb in the uncapped shaped account space? Bit of a fail for our countrys second main provider.

They are busy working on adsl products that will be better than M-Web adsl. I cannot go into too much detail at this stage but IS would not disappoint ;)
The current shaped uncapped accounts were a bit of a rush job, hence the reason they are busy working on new adsl solutions.

So IS will release new Uncapped ADSL account which will beat Mweb iro performance?

3com, I'm not sure if you got a response from IS, on *this* forum, but I'm sure if I call up on of their senior tech staff it could be resolved. We have no issues with their 4MB uncapped accounts, or their support.

I agree that the 4MB uncapped is a complete fail, we have had it for a while with intermittent line drops and the speed drops down to almost nonexistent during the day. I did manage to speak to the higher ups at IS and the best I got was a conversation where it was said that, yes there is a problem but no they can't fix it, maybe the new international bandwidth they are getting will help. this was after I suggested that the problem is contention ratios (which was not ever denied by them ) to date the only thing I managed to get from this was that that yes they will cancel my contract with them but I must please give them a three month notice period, so I need to pay for a service for the next 3 months while not receiving that service.

I will add my voice to whoever is shouting " IS SUCK"

At the moment I'm looking for a new service provider, And would be interested to hear about options that give 4MB uncapped with static IP's where the service actually works (considering MWEB's business option) any suggestions ?

Go and complain at the ASA, IS said i dont have to pay for the uncapped account cause i have pointed out that what they advertised is false and misleading (the truth). So they foot the bill and i am then going to wait for their new services to be launched in 3 to 5 months time before using any other "Fly by Night" uncapped specials.

We have been seeing similar problems with our Business ADSL Uncapped (shaped) service. They claim priority ports like HTTP, SMTP etc are not subjected to shaping, but we often see that during the day those services take a dive. Before 8am and after 5pm they suddenly get better with no explanation.

On the other side of the pond is the uncapped (unshaped) business service from MWeb, which for the most part seems to be working well for our customers sans the fact that a large portion of their netblock (41.132.0.0/14) is blacklisted, which means you cannot host your own email server (I hate using ISPs to relay mail). We also had to do some tweaking with MTU sizes for inter-branch VPNs to work properly.
