Good day,

I'm going to upgrade my headphones because my old ones broke. I'm now stuck between choosing a stereo headset or a virtual 7.1 headset. Is it really worth the experience for games or for music to buy the 7.1 headset?

Thank you
Rikus

Nope.

I guess it only matters if you watch movies, as for music? nah. Maybe if you are a DJ then you will see some benefit to it.

DJ? Music is normally stereo. DJ headphones just needs to be loud. AKA loud enough to overcome the sound of a nightclub.

Producer headphones needs to be flat in color. No low end boost, no Hall or clarity enhancement. Still just stereo.

2 ears, 2 speakers. Listen to any Binaural recording on a standard stereo headset and be amazed.

For gaming yes, for music no. It's better to get real 5.1 than virtual 5.1 or virtual 7.1 I've got the CM Sirus 5.1 real surround and the positional audio is much better than my Kingston HyperX Cloud II 7.1 virtual headset.

It depends how important positional audio is for you, for me it's very important as I play FPS games and knowing which direction someone is is extremely important to me, if you just play games for casual entertainment then maybe not so important to you, just get a good quality stereo headset then which would be better for music.
