I am planning to ditch dstv and go to ps3 Netflix solution. Will a 4mb uncapped account cope with HD NETFLIX streaming? If so, which is the current preferred isp and package for this? Trying to keep costs as low as possible, which is why I'm avoiding 10mb uncapped.

I can't imagine it would be enough. I can hardly watch something on Youtube, but maybe that's just me. I've always been struggling with my line.

I have Telkom 4mb uncapped and I do get HD Netflix on it, yes. However YMMV, it is not consistent - network conditions determine what you will get. Having a faster uncapped may help, but I suspect it will be no guarantee of HD, you will have to hear from those that use Netflix on these faster accounts. In general I am very happy with my Netflix quality (despite a few hiccups in January), I often use it on my PS3 on a big screen with acceptable results - albeit SD quality at times.
Get a Business uncapped from Afrihost an you will be sorted. I upgraded to business last month now watching HD on both Netflix and Hulu+. Too bad i am moving to a place that doesnt have ADSL so wisp it is. i hope their 5MB line wil be enough to get HD

I tried Afrihost Home Uncapped 4MB, but unfortunately Cape Town is experiencing HEAVY shaping in the evenings which made Netflix unusable. If I was lucky I could get 240p.
Switched to Webafrica Home Uncapped 4MB and now I'm constantly watching in 720p. Cheaper than Afrihost and gets the same results. Paying for Afrihost Business Uncapped to me seems very pricey if you can get the same performance from a Home product for much cheaper.

I have a 2mb account with OpenWeb, and Netflix is awesome. It seems to stream to close to dvd quality - which must be because of the compression they use.
4mb uncapped with TI used to work great till about the middle of Jan, now its really bad. I have tried Capped, AH business uncapped all much the same, so my only conclusion is that its an exchange or line issue. I see my router is now syncing at a lower rate than previously. So if you on a good exchange it shouldn't be an issue. This is going to be trial and error process I think.
but 4MB business uncapped is R800 while 10MB normal uncapped is R900. I reckon 10MB is better value for money than business?

On TI Uncapped 4Mps
It works (said very very hesitantly) So wont recommended it.
you get buffering very often and don't bother with 2 streams at once.
That said i dropped to SD quality and most programs are pretty decent, Running 2 streams at the same time hardly ever had it buffering.
Unfortunately most are Best effort service so don't Expect the full use of the 4Mb or even 10Mb line.

Perhaps wait for the new prices, before signing up for anything.
I'm currently Afrihost 4mbps uncapped bundle at R597. I get 720p on Hulu+ and Netflix, most of the time. On Netflix, quality starts of lower, but ramps up to 720p within a 1-2 minutes. I'm planning to ditch uncapped and get a 4/10mbps line with 150GB data. Just waiting for the new prices. Already unbundled my package and submitted my cancellation for the uncapped part.
I'm hoping they will announce new pricing before month-end, and that it will be effective as of 1st March. Their billing run for this month does seem to have run yet, so hope my debit order wasn't processed before I cancelled.

I have the same problem. I have had a 10Mb line for years. Now, after the Telkom speed upgrades, I am getting slower and slower speeds.
I logged a call with Telkom only to discover that they (Telkom) had dropped my profile to a lower speed without telling me.
In the past this hasn't been an issue, but now - with a Telkom and ISP price-point at 4Mb - if Telkom are unable to provide the service it may pay to reduce the service.
Me, I'm fighting for the return of my 10Mb ...

The Netflix compression is amazingly good. Even if you only get 480, it'll look better than DVD quality.

I have a 2mb uncapped account with MWEB and a decent exchange. Works well for me.
Uncapped accounts have a higher contention ratio than capped accounts. Which means that your real bandwidth speed is actually quite different the advertised bandwidth speed (in this case 4Mbps). It depends on the time of day, and your ISP. In bad cases a 4Mbps uncapped account might only compare with a 2Mbps capped account when it comes to real-time data.
The problem is shaping by your ISP!! 4mbps is good enough but you need an unshaped account if you want to watch during the day. Afrihost Business uncapped is the most affordable. If you use a service like webafrica 4mbps home you wont be able to watch netflix during the day as they shape you account (I speak from experience)
Will test this again, but it worked for me during the day. Loss in maximum quality though.
I haven't experienced any buffering at anytime when watching Netflix on my MWeb 6Meg Standard Uncapped account.
I use the Android App on my DroidTV running 4.2.2 which means it only streams at 480p but at a very decent bitrate so in my opinion it does look better than DSTV SD quality. To get HD on Android, you need to be on a Android 4.3+ Nexus Device.
