Is ADSL a rip-off?

A new trend is emerging in the ADSL arena, with every second Internet Service Provider (ISP) claiming to offer the fastest, most affordable ADSL.

To answer the question directly:

ADSL is a rip off in terms of you're paying two line rentals i.e. double charging just to have the thing. This has been fought against for ages, in actual fact this forum was at the forefront of that fight some 8 years ago.

If you can make peace with that, you'll realize that, barring any complications, you're getting the best possible connection.

Its also a ripoff in which you dont have to choose freely. No matter who you choose Telkom screws you either way.

our telkom exchange down so often it made zero sense not switching to 3g. Half the price and 6times the speed..

And a 20th of the data and 6 times the latency.

The Telkom Mobile deal, R299 for 10gb anytime and 10gb from 11pm-5am, is cheaper than most adsl deals.

When I switched, I went from paying R199 per month for 1gb on ADSL to R199 for 10gb on 3g.

And for a little less than double that you can get 250GBs from ADSL, with lower pings.
