Just saw this on Twitter:

Here is the response on twitter from Afrihost CEO Gian Visser

Sorry - Radius servers hit by successive probs. Backups took too high a load & DB connection issues. We're on it. #Afrihost

Got this email from the CEO, after I logged several not-so-nice tickets...

------
I've outlined below the problems that we experienced today
and their current status in case one of these problems
affected you and is now solved.

1. Username & Password Authentication errors

Our Radius servers that authenticate our clients' ADSL
usernames and passwords experienced a combination of
problems starting late yesterday afternoon. A backup program
initially slowed the servers down which led to random
authorisations being dropped. Thereafter another problem
relating to a database query used when validating a client
led to more authorisations being refused. Our Developers
have resolved this problem.

If you are still having problems please switch your ADSL
router off for 10 seconds or so and try again. If this does
not fix the problem then please let us know.

2. Capped Clients from last month were not made live
today (the 1st).

In a completely separate incident our 'Uncapping' program
failed to run completely last night due to a server issue.
This led to a problem whereby a number of clients who
had been capped the previous month were not uncapped
from the beginning of the 1st as they should have been.

This problem was rectified this morning and all users who
were still capped incorrectly were made live again.

3. Internet Solutions IPC under pressure.

Over the last few days the IS IPC has been under some
strain which has led to certain of our clients experiencing
slow download speeds on their lines. IS are aware of these
problems and have upgraded their IPC twice in the last
week and will continue to monitor and upgrade as and when
necessary.

This problem may still be causing some clients to experience
intermittent slower speeds than they are used to. Please be
assured that both IS and ourselves are aware of this and are
doing all we can to ensure all client's speeds return to normal
as soon as possible.

4. Questions about our Uncapped Solutions

If you have any questions about our uncapped products,
their performance and limitations please read our Uncapped
ADSL FAQs at http://www.afrihost.com/adsl-uncapped-faqs.php

Please be assured that our guys are working over the weekend
and we're aiming to get through all Tickets by the end of tomorrow.

If you do need urgent assistance please SMS the word 'Help'
to 32541 - We have dedicated guys working on these callbacks
and will do their best to get back to you ASAP.

Thank you once again for your patience in this matter.

Have a great Easter Weekend

Gian

After this proper explanation, I'm inclined to give Afrihost another chance...Their pings seem fine, port shaping seems to be sorted out, all is good.

I spent ages on their premium 0860 number at axxess trying to get an explanation, but nobody picked up the phone, how did they get isp of the year - what support?, a simple pre recorded message that IS is down and it is not a problem at the users end would of helped alot of people out, but youd rather take the cash from the phone calls, WAKE UP!

Anyone else having login problems with Afrihost Uncapped. I cannot login since 10am, wtf this is horrible service AFRIHOST, whats the point of it been uncapped.

Capped, uncapped, makes no difference right now. Their internation connectivity is toast right now. I can reach international sites from my Frogfoot-hosted VM fine.
