Is Afrihost shaping news servers?

I havent been able to download anything off of news servers for the past few days.

I hope someone can help.

They shape the regular news server ports obviously, that said it doesn't go to 0 either from experience

Not sure about shaping but I have encountered a lot more "Article not Found" errors on the Afrihost News Server than with others. You get there error there and it downloads fine in the IS one, for example.

Mine has been at 0 for the last few days. But then again my whole internet experience has been down the gutter the last few days.

Very slow the last few days, and this is on a Capped Account.

Not limited to NNTP though, downloaded the latest AMD drivers (HTTP download) and went at around 60% line speed. Again, capped account. Not an issue with line, backup WebAfrica account full speed.

This might help. Listed on the Axxess website for the past few days:
https://www.axxess.co.za/networkstatus

We are currently experiencing high network demand which is affecting the performance of some of our ADSL services. Clients may experience slower speeds on their accounts at certain times when demand is at its highest causing congestion on the network.

We are currently awaiting feedback from the relevant parties as to when the network will be upgraded to alleviate the congestion. We assure all our clients that this is being given the highest priority and all necessary steps are being followed to expedite.

See nothing on the Afrihost website

Axxess has always been honest, while AH will try blame your line.

This is true. Axxess had a red light on their website when there were problems, but AH kept it green pretending all was well.

Experiencing this as well, slow downloads from the Usenet

For me I have experienced the opposite. My streaming has been great and news groups running at max at around 1MB/s.

Was able to watch a 1080p 5.1 stream via Mashup the other night without an issue.

Watched a movie with the missus last night and experienced periodic buffering but nothing serious at all. Also watched IPL on ITV4 as well as Heineken cup final with minimal issues.

AH 10mb capped account - needless to say I have finished my 150gb

I also found when I was still with them they started shaping news server ports

GO check your news server settings though as some of them offer a variety of ports on SSL - I changed all 3 my servers to different ports on each and speed picked up
