hey guys

im a bf2 player and would REALLY appreciate any help i can get on this

basically, im getting a 3gb openweb account, wich is a IS isp, starting next month(wich comes with 30gb local). i want to know if i`ll still be able to play bf2 after my 3gb intl cap has been reached? since bf2 requires you to log into a international account server before you can join a local server. is there any package(like a proxy service or something) that would allow me to play bf2 after my 3gb intl cap has been reached? any help will be greatly apreaciated!

thx

Have a look at this as an option

The way I understand it they do the international link. I did try and get connected but for some reason it did not like McAfee Internet Security and I could never get it working. I was trying to get around the slow ping rate when playing BF2. I finally did port forwarding on my router and this sorted it out, but that is another issue to what you are looking at.

not an option we know that

will be a uunet situation

UUNET and IS are nothing alike. IS actually know what they are doing ;) hehe

Though.. if IS peers with SAIX overseas (dont know if this is happening yet), you can forget local gaming (unless IS make bf2.is.co.za ;))

Hey Zoidberg,

There is a thread on this on the SIAX forums. I believe that they have some arrangement that allows capped players to play i.e. the authentication to go through even though you may be capped. It is a 'sticky thread', so should be easy to find.

Cheers

See you on the battlefield ;-)

so let me get this straight? on the new saix account, even when they are capped users will still be allowed to play? can someone post that post here

Ah but you see local is going to be hard-capped on SAIX accounts so it's sort of useless having this feature unless IS - - > SAIX have good latency.

My understanding is that it is only the initial authentication that needs an international link. I believe that the SAIX Gaming Servers (SGS) have arranged that this is still possible.

Have a look at http://games.saix.net/ and go to the BF2 thread. There is an entire section only playing when capped.

I wasn't trying to imply that if you have a SAIX account that you can play regardless.....I hope I'm making myself clear :)

Um - hang on - stop riding in the wrong direction with no C4 on your jeep.

Here's the critical post's content:
Posy by : Elyzium
This is what has changed. When you are capped you get assigned a capped IP address which gets like next to no international bandwidth. A portion of this next to no bandwidth is allocated for gaming authentication. I have added the BF2 authentication to this thus making it possible to play when capped.
Hope that makes sence if not I'm gonna have to go into more detail.

So - all that happened is that the CAPPED users that still have local access are allowed to authenticate [log-on] while capped. They will still only be allowed to play locally.

Now - back to ZoidBerg's question - once capped, you're also going to have to access the international Account Server to log-on.
So - ask your ISP if they're going to do the same thing for you that Elyzium did for the SAIX users.

yes but local is gonna be hard capped

meaning once your cap is reached your cut off no internet

is is like uunet

uunet was good until they over signed and blamed everyone but themselves

uunet was great till they started signing home users

OpenWeb have decided to provide everybody who purchases a 3Gb account and above a FREE 56k local proxy account (56k browsing access after capped). I know this is slow, but at least it will allow you to login to the servers and perform the necessary authentication.

nope, with openweb you will be capped after 3gb, and be hardcapped after 30gb
that means there is still 27gb i could use to play bf2, if only i could get the couple of international KBs it would take each time to log in first.

getting back to my question, mrBEEP i know you are providing a proxy service, but im not sure if that would actualy help my bf2 authentication situation?

maybe some1 with more technical know-how than myself could help me here?

short answer? move to a decent country :P i dont wanna stay here but have to since i am a poor white guy recently finished with tech.

1. dont play online games anymore (no more BF2 for me)
2. only browse text websites
3. only download virus updates
