Hi all

I've been experiencing an intermittent issue while gaming recently - on BFV I'll get kicked off the server, and I'll see my Discord connection status goes red. Within a few seconds, it'll correct, but I'll have to rejoin the server. When I check the router, there's been no disconnect, so my assumption is its a lag spike or packet loss that causes it.

I have replaced the Mikrotik hAP router with a Mik CCR1036+ recently, however I'm pretty sure the issue started a couple days after I changed routers. To note, I cloned the settings from the hAP to the CCR line-by-line (with the exceptions of the wireless config as this wasn't necessary).

I think today I'll revert to the hAP to test if the issue is router related or not, however I was curious if anyone else was experiencing similar?

Try a vanilla config on your hAP. First update software and firmware (system > routerboard >upgrade). Then reset to default configuration. defconf should give you WAN and LAN, DHCP on LAN and a DHCP client on eth1. If you're on vuma trenched, the DHCP Client on Ethernet 1 will get you up and connected again with a public IP. If not, disable the dhcp client and configure a PPPOE client (you may need to update firewall rules too). While you're at it, just check the LAN cable between - swap it out, we're seeing bad quality cables causing issues). Check if you get any packet loss. But a CCR1036 is a fancy piece of kit, you shouldn't see any problems with that.

I don't think it is just the router. We have been experiencing gaming issues on Vuma and various other network providers for the last two months. Most of the complaints are on the Cool Ideas thread.

I think the networks are congested and gaming suffers because the ping spikes and packet loss is something that is a daily occurrence.

I've swapped the router to test - experienced no issues last night. I'll run on this router for a bit to see if this is coincidence or whether the mikrotik was causing something...

No problems for me at all, smooth as butter. Vox/Vuma

I had the same issue, went to the fiber box (Where the fiber router cable connects to) and moved the cable to a new port and double checked the seating. Disconnects stopped. Probably unrelated to you, but maybe worth a try to move ports around if you havent already. Otherwise no issues whats so ever.

I am on Telkom Fibre and for the last two weeks my ping in the evenings are crap (all fine during the day). I am also on a capped account (thus no shaping).

Local pings jump from 10 to 120 and pings to EU servers (PUBG etc.) jump from 180 to 290, therefore a consistent 110 difference for some reason.

Will log a call with Telkom today.

Just an update....

I experienced the same issue again on the other router.

On a whim, I switched ports on my PC (my mobo has 2) - and no problems since.

If it helps anyone else - the issue seemed related to the Killer Ethernet port on my Gigabyte Aorus motherboard. The other port is good old Intel - and no issues.
