Is Crystal Web really THAT good?

I currently have a 4Mbps line (managed by WebAfrica) and a 100GB Afrihost Capped Account and AfrihostPlus add-on. I pay Afrihost R198pm. They are also giving me FreeTime for some reason even though I don't have an account of R399pm+

However, lately my connection becomes horrible in the evening. Speedtest indicates that I'm getting 3.2-3.6 Mbps but the connection is slow so I assume I'm being throttled. This happens on different protocols as well not just streaming and "large" downloads. It sometimes takes 5mins to load a webpage.

With that being said, I would like to try out another ISP, people on here seem to love CW so I'd just like to know how good are they and can they offer me the same value for money as Afrihost.

Been having lots of trouble with Crystal Web and their support is among the worst I have ever had the displeasure of using.

I'm with Vox and I've had to contact them once in the last three years and that was only because I couldn't log into the user portal, it was fixed five minutes later.

Best ISP I have ever been with by far.

Speedtest in sig, that was during peak time about two days ago, 10Mbps line.

Note that my upload is limited to 0.60 due to bandwidth control on my router, should be able to hit 0.7-0.8 I think, do it on purpose so someone uploading doesn't ruin everyone else's experience.

Seems its a hit-or-miss with them. How's your performance right now on things such as Twitch, YouTube and http downloads? My gripe with them is their **** peak performance.

YouTube right now.
I've not had an issue with Twitch but I rarely watch it.
HTTP downloads go full line speed, downloaded a file half an hour ago.

OP...you sure your exchange is not congested? You will experience problems with any ISP if the exchange is congested.

CW gives trial accounts. Try if it at peak.

I can't seem to get a CW trial account at the moment, the website is being iffy. I am currently using an Axxess trial account and there is a significant difference compared to Afrihost even though they are using the same network so I don't think my exchange is that congested but I'll look into it. Trace routes aren't great on either account but definitely worse on Afrihost.

EDIT: I managed to get a CW trial account now, will test it and give feedback

Did you really moer your routers against the wall?

To the OP, yes, they are great. I have had no issues with them.

I was with AH for less than a year, streaming sucked - on Business Uncapped, supposedly totally unthrottled and unshaped - and support kept giving me the run-around for 3 months. Jumped ship to CW and am approaching 2 years with them now, also I've had much better luck with their support guys than with any other ISP's.

Hope that gives you an idea.

I stream from American servers every single night...during peak and never have a problem.

I am no longer with CW, and the decision to not be there anymore had nothing to do with them or their product. Telkom just had a better deal that suited my usage patterns on LTE at the time.

When I was with them the performance was great, the support (the very few times I needed it) was pretty damned awesome.
