Is Diginet good enough for Warhammer?

Hey everybody, this is my first time posting threads so I'm not sure how this works, but I have a question that I really need help with.
My dad wants to invest in a Diginet line, can I play Warhammer Online with it? Or is it too slow, I see alot of discussion has been made over the difference between ASDL and Diginet, but which one is better for WoW and Warhammer?

Probably not. Diginet is synchronous (same upload / download speed), and costs a heck of a lot more than ADSL for less speed.

For eg, you would be paying (rough thumbsuck, I don't have my figures in front of me) around 2k a month for a 64k line (which is not much faster than 56k modem) - and that's NOT including the ISP port charges for Internet access.

I honestly don't see a need for a diginet line for a home / SOHO / or even a small business.

Thanks alot man, so if I want to play WoW or Warhammer, ADSL is the way to go? How much is the latency on ADSL with these games? Some nut here told my dad that diginet is double as fast as ADSL, I dont know diginet so thats why Im asking these questions

Tell your dad to look at the line speed. Then tell him "See that 'k', it means thousand. Now let's look at the ADSL line speeds. See that 'm', it means million. See that price tag, diginet sucks. Kthxbye".

LOL @ Kami: dont frighten the newb with such rude phrasing :P

@ Rigor: essentially he is telling u that Digi = bad, ADSL = good.

You'll be paying roughly R6800 a month for a 128k Diginet line (thats total with port charges and ISP cost)

This then give you a "dedicated" 56k internationally (but full speed 128k locally) "uncapped"

Not worth the price.

Compared with ADSL, the cheapest is 384k (already much faster) and if you're old man is willing to spend R6800 a month on internet, you can get around 120gig shaped international bandwidth (or a ****load more local bandwidth)

120gig on a 384k line would take you a while to download. :)

Latency should also be better on an ADSL line than a Diginet line, but BOTH are playable with MMO's.

Umm...I'm not entirely clued up on the differences, but doesn't an adsl line have a contention ratio of like 50:1, sharing that exchange with 50 other users? thats why you get an effective speed of 50k/b per second on a 512kb line when your actually download?

A diginet is purely dedicated to you 1:1 contention ratio, therefore a 64 k/b Diginet line gets you a 64k/b download speed ?

Like I said I'm not entirely sure, but paying 6k for a line must surely get you better latency than a adsl line.

Diginet lines internetional contention ratio is not 1:1

Local yes.

International you'll be lucky to get 56k speeds.

The latency isn't better. I've checked that before with one of my clients lines.

Hmmm price aside, Joy stated some good points. And the OP question was not on price but on whether it will be good enough.

I used to play EQ on a diginet line (4yrs ago or so). Great pings iirc (under 300ms)

Provided that was 4 years ago. I used to get that ping with ISDN (much cheaper than diginet as well)

NB, used to get...

I've had EVERY connection under the sun. ADSL FTW :)

Thank you all very much for the info, I see it was worth it to join the forum, ADSL it is, thank you all again
