Is Discovery Vitality worth it?

*bump* So every so often I have this same question ... in 2018, what do y'all think? They want to charge me R289/month to add Vitality for my wife and myself, and I dunno if I'll get enough value back to justify that. Anybody else run the numbers?

Still depends. I go to the gym (would cost around R400pm) for free, get cashback for healthy food from picknpay (about R300 per month), free running shoes (you buy them and get the cash back every month until they're paid off), free flight (you can get 2 local flights free per year).

Those are the most worth it things for me, there are a few other benefits. Don't have a discovery card, I don't see the value in that. Vitality alone works for me. So if you're not into all that stuff then it might not be worth it for you

Thanks for the answer :) How does the cashback for healthy food work (how do you redeem that?), and do you need to be on a certain vitality rewards tier to get as much as you do back?

How does the two local flights a year work??

It comes at cash into your bank account every month. To get the max 25% cashback, you need to have done an online assessment, and a health assessment with a nurse at one of their health days or just at clicks. So no need to be on the highest tier for the cashback

IMO it's worth it - the wife and I gym for free provided that we hit our goals (haven't missed one since signing up in the beginning of the year), and a free smoothie each week is a nice perk.

The PnP cashback and shoes and flights are nice perks, but to me even if they weren't there, just the gym benefit would be worth it.

I also find that it helps to keep me motivated to actually work out. Several times this year I would have stopped running due to being busy / lazy / usual excuses, but since there's money at stake, I haven't. So the extra psychological motivation IMO does help.

Currently working through one now - they give you your standard Vitality discount when you book, you then need to hit 6 goals for a further 30%, every goal after that is another 5%.
