I just tested the DSTV R & D stream on DSTV Now and I think it is a 4K test. It is taking up way more bandwidth than a normal HD stream (17 - 25Mb/s) and it clearer than the other Supersports HD streams. But I could be wrong.

What is R&D? Tried a sports stream and two random entertainment streams now and all were the usual crap. Most content isn't available in 4K on any platform - I'd be perfectly happy with a crisp 1080p.

I've been disappointed by the DSTV Now app on the telkom lit box... Netflix I stream 4k with no buffering on the tv OS but dstv now will stream on 720 and buffer :( and then crash.

I also saw that R&D channel... Wasn't sure what it's about but let's hope it's for 4k. Would be lovely.

I really don't know why they're bothering with 4K. They can't even get Full HD streams to work reliably.

For the few who still cling to their services, those diehards who like to pay inflated prices because its too much trouble to "fiddle with media streams"

The few hundered thousand?

How about 1080p streams that are actually 1080p first

Checked it again today and much clearer than any other channel. States 4k.

Dstv now has awful streaming quality. Even on good my 100mbps line it's stutters and hangs. I think the team should focus on optimising the current stream than bringing 4k which would only apply to a small percentage

Just watched the FIFA World Cup 3/4 place play-off on the 4k test channel on my 65" UHD screen using a LIT Box. I can confirm, the stream is DEFINITELY in 4k resolution. Doesn't quite feel like a 60Hz stream though. With Ultra Smooth Motion Enabled I get the 60Hz feel.
