Is Fibre 'stable'?

We just got Fibre installed in our complex and would like to get a 20mbps line for our house. However, I've heard that fibre isn't stable as the infrustructure is still being completed etc.

My question is: Is it worth getting fibre now and just deal with the instability or wait til the quality improves and get a 20mbps ADSL line?

:D

:crying: What is definitely a problem in many cases where users complain about Fibre is the poor quality of installations done by small "fly by night" companies.

My CISP/Octotel fiber was not stable the first several weeks but that's because the fibre had just been laid a couple weeks before. It seems stable in the past month or so. I don't get good international download speeds though and CISP techs are looking into it but for local I can get 90+Mbit download speed tests. As a backup however, and to keep my old MWEB email, I am keeping a 2Mbit uncapped DSL account for a while to make sure I have connectivity regardless.

Consider keeping your DSL account going or downgrade the speed to see if the fibre suits you. Give it a month or two and then maybe drop the DSL.

Rather keep a mobile data back-up, use it on your phone, that way it doesn't go to waste.
R55 for Mweb's "premium" mailbox, https://www.mweb.co.za/email/mweb-premium-account, you'll get more storage space out of it.

My fibre is very stable speedwise. My LTE is very much faster for the packages I am on. But I want uncapped :)

I think it depends on the network.

Our complex switched to Vumatel. Before that I was on Telkom Uncapped LTE for about 2 years.

In 2 years I had 2 network outages on Telkom

Since Vumatel, my internet has been down about 9 times in 9 months.

Make of that what you want...

It is stable. Just be aware of equipment compatibility issues, like the one I had

As far as gaming goes fibre is waay more stable than adsl. There is no noticeable impact of upload on latency, at least from my experience on a symmetrical line and i believe download has less of an impact on latency too. The max my latency jumps up by is about 20ms when download is maxed out, this is on 200/200 line.

Been stable as **** in my experience, and a lot more than anything Telkom/Openserve-related, i.e. ADSL.
