We have been waiting for more than a year for OpenServe to activate the fibre infrastructure in our area. It was so badly installed by contractors working for Huawei, that just about everything has to be redone.
And yes , I have been offered a cutover to fibre for my ADSL service at a standard price which is the same as an upgrade to VDSL.
BUT. I have so far played hard to get until Telkom can prove to me the fibre infrastructure is working, which I know it is not because I have a copy of the fibre tests showing that the fibre pair to the main connection point is not working yet.

LOL, the complex is less than 5 years old. I am guessing you've never actually lived in one.
Where we live just about all the residents have LTE routers. We cannot get phone lines, we cannot get fibre, because MARITE and their gatgabbas on the HOA say no. In any case it was just temporary to live there, we ended up staying longer than we should have, and that's coming to an end soon. So no big deal hey. Just waiting for you to work the issue of race into my argument.. standing by!

Agreed, took me years to get them to roll out fibre. Eventually they did but I was moving :-(. I was also the only person in the entire complex who had ADSL

Yeah I need decent internet at home to be able to work from home.
In our specific case the body corp and HOA are being *******s, because so many people in my complex alone have LTE, the network tower is saturating. Every second unit I walk past, I can see the white LTE router either in the window sill or on the kitchen counter. That's on average 60-70 people in one complex alone who would want fibre (and have repeatedly told Vox and Frogfoot this).

Apparently, the latest news was that Frogfoot actually told the BC and HOA that they will cover all costs if they can please just do the necessary. As per usual, old people being stuck in 1992 "Why do these people need this?" "Why but we have DSTV points installed" "Everyone has cellphones, we don't want Telkom in here its a security risk"

I have two fibre connections at my house in Alberton.
An Axxess 40Mb connection through OpenServe for the last year now.
And just installed yesterday a Cool Ideas 100 Mbps Connection through SA Digital Villages (fibre laid by Motheo Construction).
(Will drop the OpenServe connection down to the bare minimum when the SADV fibre is confirmed to be running smooth).

MY daughter lives in that same area. Huawei's contractors made such a mess of the fibre roll out there as wel. The existing fibres have been lying dead now for more than a year. About two weeks ago, a test team arrived needing access to test the infrastructure, and, not only is the splicing so bad, but the WRONG pair count cables have been installed, meaning ALL the fibre installed has to be recovered and the correct pair count cables have to be installed. The common denominator is HUWAEI!
