Is FNB losing the plot.

I constantly withdraw money (the amounts I need) as I hate having large amounts of cash on me or at home. Honestly, FNB may be a great bank for some, but it no longer fits my requirements. I don't need free ADSL bandwidth or contract offers on cellphones and tablets (I get this all for free from my work). What I need from a bank is great customer service, unlimited ATM withdrawals from their own ATMs, low-medium fees for withdrawals from other ATMs (FNB is ridiculous currently, like R30 or something per withdrawal), and a premiere banker who actually responds to my requests. Furthermore, their turn around times are shocking.

FNB has lost the plot as a bank, but is a great technology innovator. Unfortunately, what I need is a BANK and not a spaza shop that sells everything from airtime to mealie meal...

For a R10 increase it seems like we actually get less (Since i joined this is actually the second increase on fees)

Quite peeved to see the value proposition I signed up for is being diminished. Its not a major issue for me that you only allowed 6 free withdrawals, but its the idea that I now need to keep track of this or get burnt with a charge. Whereas previously I didn't have to give a care about using the ATM.

I don't know about changes to ebucks and the SLOW lounge (never used it either - i like the Keg at the airport).

All the guys who took out the tablets and smartphones are now locked in. For the rest - we can move - however there is nothing from the competitors that still compares or is better in my opinion.

Capitec.

Well ,as the atm withdrawals is the dealbreaker for me ,I might aswell see what Capitec has to offer.

I ,like Pavan did not sign for the internet, deals and other frills. What bought me was unlimited swipes, atm and paypal.

So the valua aspect of this accounts is looking bleak.

Definitely going to look into Capitec and the new retail arm of Investec thats launching soon.

not liking the changes to ebucks earning ... makes it even more difficult to get ebucks and makes capitec look more appealing .... only reason I stick with fnb was for the ebucks, as on a cost basis, capitec beats them ... so if ebucks are not on the cards anymore, then capitec will be the winner

if you really feel that in the year 2012, you need to draw money more often than 6 times a month, maybe you need to find 'the plot' ?

Take your grievances to their Facebook and Twitter pages. They do actually respond there, and if enough people complain then they will listen.

Yeah that's not the thing that gets me, it's the issue about withdrawals being less than swiping in order to earn eBucks. So that means that if I decide to go on a binge at Monte and withdraw more than I swiped for the month, I would have forfeited any eBucks that could have been earned.

Hey, its my preference. If I need R50 at work for a chow, I draw it. This could happen several times a month. Like I said, its my requirements that are different and not catered for in the new rules - not everyone's.

Surely anyone who bought a tablet or phone from FNB could use the CPA to cancel the contract?

There is now a limit on the EBucks earn level on Platinum accounts and the earn levels on Gold and Silver have been halved.
They've escalated their card fees too. They hiked the Platinum fees drastically a couple of years ago and are now adding fees for additional cards too. They also made the eBucks link free for a while, then started charging again.

Having cash on you can be convenient at times. Shops do tend to get screwed when you pay for cheap things with a card. Like for instance I went to Matt's Music and I just needed some picks, cost would have been R28 but the guy ended up just giving them to me for free because he said that it would cost them more to swipe my card than the cost of the picks. (Not to say they're way over charging on a piece of plastic >.<)

I have just moved to FNB, but if they make it more expensive/less appealing than when i signed up I will quite happily move to Capitec and get myself a Virgin Money credit card.

Guys check out the fee saver pricing option - keep R9k in your account - and you bank for free! Your monthly charge gets waved. Make sure it meets your requirements though. Even if it doesn't exactly whatever you do end up paying for, provided its less then your normal monthly charge you are saving!

Not true. It's a percentage.

Doesn't affect me as I barely withdraw cash anyway, and swipes are still unlimited. I'm upset about the changes made to eBucks and SLOW lounge access though. I wouldn't mind paying the few extra bucks if nothing changed, but we're actually getting less than we used to.
You need to swipe for > R5k per month in order to qualify.
I noticed the Slow Lounge change, and they specifically seemed to be talking about using one's cheque card to swipe. I missed any mention about not earning eBucks if not swiping enough :wtf:

As I only swipe with my platinum credit card and never with my cheque card, I figured I would not be qualifying for slow lounge access anymore due to the modified requirements :(

That is what I have now. I am very happy. I honestly cant be bothered with frekking E-Bucks and Greenbacks. It takes you a damn lifetime to save enough to actually buy something worthwhile. I will rather save on my banking fees and have real Rands to show for it...not these suger coated reward k@k! BLEH!

Well, that depends. FNB pays me to bank with them, essentially. I get anything between R130 and R250 worth of eBucks from them every month. I don't pay banking fees on my cheque account with them as I am on the Fee-saver option. On my mortgage bond, because it's pre-NCA i pay only R5 in fees per month (excluding interest on the bond of course).

No problems there. It's hard to be under 5k!
Why spend on your debit/cheque card (using your own money) when you can rather spend their money interest free for up to 55 days?

My only issue with Virgin is the ridiculous file format they use for statements. I wish they'd switch to something normal like PDF.

That doesn't help with credit card fees though.

There is usually a minimum fee. That's why smaller shops will typically refuse to accept a credit card for purchases below a certain value. In the UK the standard was £5.

Pretty much what I said when we had that "OMFG why is anyone still with Standard Bank ololololol"-thread. I want my bank to do bank stuff properly first and foremost. I'll buy cellphones from a cellphone shop if I really want.

Although now that the competition has basically dried up, Standard will probably increase their fees as well.
