In between sleeping and surfing
for the last 2 months I have been with IS, and I dont think I have had 1 week where there has not been some problem ,
whether its the peering problem, the international is down, the news groups are not responding , slow local, slow international, slow everything or just plain not working ...

Now I am with IS for 2 reasons one the 30GB local and the other is they not Telkom, but why should I even support a company that has all these problems so often, and with very little information from them ( just like telkom, perhaps not as bad ).

How am I supposed to feel any loyalty to a brand that it giving such lacking service ?

IS problems are Telkom-created.. I didn't say that though..

Regardless of where the problems originate we the consumer are the ones who have to stand around without connectivity.

The problem is not always Telkom, and if it is, its up to IS to make sure that Telkom do what they should, these problems should not be mine/ours , especially with such frequency ...

well said, DGremlin.

funny how they always blame Telkom. works nicely having a scapegoat that everyone hates.. :D

IS blaming Telkom for all their problems is just pathetic... A convinient excuse (excuse the spelling). In the last months, I lost the very last bit of respect for IS I had left in me...

That is one 1st tier provider that will NEVER see me on their network...

The thing that annoys me about IS =
1. Latency.
2. Cost = equiv to SAIX + latency + extra local access :x
3. Network going down alot.. i always see notices about this.
4. Cost <- again, why is it as expensive

I must admit, I have never had any issues really with telkom and my ADSL experience. The odd time I did have an issue, the guys came out the next day sorted out the problem, no hassel. I am on line pretty much the whole day and I can honestly say I have had very very little downtime. Maybe I am not downloading from the same places everyone else is but so far so good. I use the ADSL to connect to home from work also nearly every day and I cant remember when I last had a connection issue. Internation surfing and downloading has been fine, I am with MWEB and Webafrica.

IS are no more interested in giving their customers a good deal than telkom are. If IS where in telkom's position things would be exactly the same as they are now.

IS want to give us a good deal but cannot do it

they must just tell ppl before they sign with IS :

we have problems almost every week
our network is not stable

but we are cheap and we are not telkom, sign with us now

o and if anything goes wrong its telkoms fault

At least with IS you have the feeling that some one is listening. With Telkom, you KNOW they do not give a fark.

whats the point of someone listening to your problems on a weekly basis as opposed to someone at telkom listening to your problem every six months

i would opt for the latter

Look back in the forum regarding SAIX international issues, its not every 6months.. Its also pretty much a daily issue.

hmmm clipse i doubt that very much my man

ive had adsl for a long time now and so has around 15 ppl i know

never heard them complain

no i know alot of ppl with IS and all they do is complain :)

I used an IS based ADSL account for 6 months. I'm really glad I switched back to a SAIX based account. The difference has been VERY noticeable.

Can't complain about my telkom connection (besides all the usual: price, caps, etc) - but stable - and usually quick. Had teething problems but little since. One of the great things of being with telkom is they can never say its somebody else's problem -. And perhaps you get treated differently if you are actually using telkom as an isp - use to phone at 3am - phone gets answered fairly promptly - problems fixed - or techy booked/which can be a problem/wait for 3 days - but overall good. Just hate being ripped a new one every month - and always watching the cap.

I've been using Telkom ISP for what seems like forever without much trouble really.

Recently I've noticed some hickups generally, but been having an absolute disaster with two IS hosted sites.

I've explored the issue in some depth - the whole story is here - and frankly I can't blame IS. There seems little doubt that in this case they are being given the treatment by Telkom.

The tragedy is that at the end of the day it looks like the sites will move off IS servers through no fault of their own - yet another win for Telkom, but what can I do?
