Is it all hype?

Besides, watching one monopoly take on another could prove to be very entertaining.

That would be fun, 2 incompetent, non client centric companies making a mess of things...

But would the biggest incompetent body in the broadcasting space:rolleyes: - ICASA allow us this entertainment by granting a licence to Telkom?;)

Nice article.

1st: REFRAIN from using the word IMMINENT PLEASE I beg you.

2nd: I too am not holding my breath for IPTV or Wimax. I'll rather give Neotel a chance to prove what they're worth.

if the sponsorship by Do Broadband of this rather, erm, crap 'weblog' - http://blog.wm.co.za/ - is anything to do by, then surely one it's time to pull the plug on one of the biggest bull****ters this country has yet produced...

WOW. But I must point out that although Multichoice is a "monopoly" in paid TV, it's by no means monopoly in tv services....and I don't think they're that bad...

The thinking is still that 384 with 1/2/3gig is broadband.

Change this and triple play will likely just work.

Evidently you have no exposure to any other tv content than Multichoice.
* Quality of signal is POOR
* Content is at best questionable and in most cases dated.
* Price is outrageously high for the offering.

If you never ventured out of dorpieplass try googling few pay tv offerings..
sky in europe
http://packages.sky.com/see/
http://packages.sky.com/compare/

or any premium tv in north America.

Now all this is not to support Telkon bid or to say that they will do any better.

But having higher expectations should lead to better offering.

Doesn't seem too cheap to me... just from looking at the first link to sky packages:

variety mix (soapies etc) + music mix + news mix + knowledge mix + sport + movies
= 4 mixes + sport + movies
= £18 + £22.50
= £30.50
= R420.60 (and that excludes the £11 BT line rental you have to pay)

Granted you get a whole lot more channels to surf but then you also have to put up with all their extra advertising.

How will Telkom be able to keep its workforce after burdening them with ADSL and now tripple-play installations is beyond me...

Customer satisfaction is bound to drop...

I have ventured into those places...and like the previous post said, it's not cheap either...and frankly except for a few channels they are basically the same as multichoice. At the end of the day, more choice is what we want. But I don't think we can vaguely place Multichoice and Telkom into the same goup.
