Is it even worth getting a Neotel package?

After reading all of the complaints about Neotel, it seems like going with a Telkom phone+adsl package is a far better option? which seems kind of scary...

Specifically looking for internet access + a phone line and Neotel seemed the ideal option, but the number of forum users who are cancelling Neotel and going back to Telkom due to poor service/speeds/etc seems to be making Telkom a much better option?

Am I missing something on this, or is this really the case?
 
Concerning the phone calls I'm super happy with Neotel. Per second billing rates and are lower than Telkoms. I'm saving about R100-R200 a month.

On the internots ... well ... I'm studying right now (UNISA) and having bad latency prevents me playing games and focusing more on my work. Oh, and being single threaded is irratating. Nothing worse than surfing the net and then a phone call comes in cutting off your connection.
 
Which apple will you buy? The rotten apple or the beautiful apple treated with DDT?
 
Stay far away.

Had Prime. The clarity on the phone wasn't very good.
Data wasn't bad at the time, since network was still brand new.
I now have a DataFlex and I can't even get the speeds I had on Prime back then. Cancelling in September when contract expires.

Stay far away.
 
Lets wait for gdiza or jeanres.....they just might try to convince you otherwise

I would say get someone who has Neotel to come and drop his router in your house to test if it is going to work 100% if not then go elsewhere

If it does work at acceptable speed then get it :)

I have had very little issues with my flex account. But the choice is yours
 
As a Neotel datacard user I was a little let down with the performance. Currently I get about a 3 bar signal in my house. This allows me to download at about 40kb a sec, about the equivalent of a 384kbit/s adsl line. The speed I get is dependent on the weather and my exact location. I have had some hectic download speeds in some areas and crappy download speeds in others.

I'd say that unless you need wireless broadband then get adsl. If you would like to be mobile then you can't beat a Neotel Datacard. To summarise I am not overly impressed, but the service is decent and suits my budget.

I guess the pricing is no longer a huge factor between ADSL vs Neotel and any price difference will be fairly negligible...
 
Sigh. Looks like I'll be doing the Telkom line + ISP (Afrihost seems the highly recommended one on this forum).

Ultimately - we allow test accounts to run for a week with consumers, thereby affording you the chance to decide yes or no, you want to sign up or you'd prefer another option.

As well, and we all seem to be forgetting this, we're still developing our network (and those of you who posted on the debate thread, well noted, but not for here now), so yes, infrastructure is still improving to allow a larger diversity of services and bandwidth allocation.

Guarantee you, all the other networks had the same teething probs when they first launched. Ok, given that our service delivery until late has been of the "not so great at all" standards, I and we are hard plotting and implementing change processes so you actually have an enlightened service when calling in.

I can appreciate the teething problems, but to be honest, I think it is a bit far along to still be complaining about being a developing network. A large number of complaints that I have read are often to do with customer service and just dealing with complaints, that has nothing to do with the network.

As much as I would like to try a test account, the number of complaints whereby people had great service+speeds for a few weeks and then saw these rapidly diminish, means I am extremely reluctant to go down that route.


I really was looking forward to not having to use Telkom and to support the 2nd operator, but ultimately it does seem like Telkom has upped its game in a big way, while Neotel is still riding on the euphoria of having launched a 2nd operator and is relying on people "not wanting to use Telkom", rather than choosing the operator with superior service.
 
Apparently Neotel is amazingly awesome, as long as you have awesome signal....... is that true....
