Just got my 192k about a month ago, and never managed to pull anything higher than 20Kb/sec. Speed tests (both Telkom and Gamco) never reported anything higher than 183kbps. Basically, it was working as expected...

Tonight I got home and noticed my browsing was just a tad "slicker". <click click> and behold:

234.90kbps

Did I sleep through June/July and is it already 1 August? Anyone else on 192k experiencing this sudden speed boost, however slight it may be?

Your line speed is approximately 164.7 Kbps or 20.2 kBytes/sec
( Where kb = kilobits and kB = kiloBytes )

still the same here! is it reasonable to expect 40 ish come august 1st 2006 or 2007?

Watch... Telkom is just playing with you. They are going to leave it like that for a week or so, then drop you back down to 183kbps...

That will leave you scratching your head for a while!!!

P.S. I can't wait for the 1st August... I am going 1mbit !!!!

Telkoms max speed through a DSL line at the current moment is about 8MB. It is controlled via software and throttles your connection down. I have personally seen "speed bursts" of up to 100k/s on a 512k line. Even shaping can be to a certain extent "jippoed" by making use of concurrent PPOE connections and proper network routing.

I used to get 240 too, but for the last month or two is under or around 180 ... telkom has droped the speed so after I ask them for the "free upgrade" and wait for about a year they can get me back to 240 .... I won't even bother phoning them, I don't care
