Is it MoBo? 4Gb memory Problem

OK, hopefully last question for you - if I replace this board with the same exact board, will I still need an OS cd for my current HD to boot? I bought my computer w/o an OS, so if I need to repair the xp installation I'll have to spend about $200 for an XP Pro OS along with the $90 the new mobo will cost. I guess either way is cheaper than a whole new system, but it'd be nice not to have to spend $200 if I can help it. If I do repair using a new XP cd, will my system be the same as it was?

If the board is exactly the same I can't see any reason why it shouldn't work but you never know these days. Doing a repair your system should be exactly the same as it was

Thanks for your help, Linoman. I'm going to get a new board from NewEgg. Hopefully everything will be back and working by the end of the week.

So, as an end to this story, I let my comp sit over night unplugged and with the CMOS battery removed. This morning I decide to try 1 more time so I plug everything back in and miracle! it starts up. It has a different POST screen now that just shows the Gigabyte logo, but it runs fine again. I decided to see if resetting the cmos helped my original problem of 4gb sticks/no boot, and I now have all 4 sticks of memory in. I don't really have a clue what fixed it, it was all just luck and your help here, so thank you! Now, my system only reports 3 gigs when I go to System Properties, but at least its running again.

All I can say is congrats man, glad your system is working again. For now just get used to it only working with 3GB RAM;)

Yeah, I'll eventually upgrade to Vista probably, or maybe I'll try to keep XP until the next windows OS comes out. Either way, I'm sure the next OS I get will be a 64 bit one, so I'll eventually be able to use my 4gb of mem.
