So yeah this has been my adsl experiences for the last two weeks

Zertop's "Is it my Line" Results
Basic Report:
Your average ping was 457ms
Your maximum ping was 457ms

Looking at your average ping, there is definitely something wrong with your line-( Please post the results (at the end of the program) into the forum for advice

Ping statistics for 105.236.3.65:
Packets: Sent = 30, Received = 1, Lost = 29 (96% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 457ms, Maximum = 457ms, Average = 457ms

Sat 11/15/2014 15:26:56.58

Even with these horrible statistics, Telkom still insists that everything is fine and has been tested and retested.
I've also used other ISP accounts and it still continues to be this bad. Any advice/steps I can take to get this resolved?

Also I don't really understand what is good line attenuation and noise margins, is this good or bad?
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 28.0 db 17.0 db
Noise Margin 17.9 db 12.0 db

The exchange is within 500 meters of our residence.
PS. Nice piece of software

That looks terrible :(

Have you tried contacting your local telkom shop instead of the hotline? Those stats look fine to me to be honest - quite a solid 4mbps.

Z :)

EDIT: Just waiting for my domain to come back online - but the new version will also account for that packet loss! That indicates a serious issue :/

No I have not made contact with a telkom outlet yet, would it be advisable to go in person to the shop with all the relevant statistics and information such as traceroutes, speedtests and modem stats using two or three ISP's in the process to eliminate the option of being an ISP related problem, because I bet they will tell me that. Thanks for the quick response!

Whenever I had issues - going in store seemed to make life a whole lot easier :p

Multiple ISP's always tend to give you some control over the situation. If possible, could you check out a neighbours connection? Do you know of any general issues around - or is it just you?

Oh! And make sure that sometime in the past few weeks, you haven't installed any new phones/alarms etc and forgot to install a pots filter. Doing something like that would give you the results as above,

Z :)

Hi Zertop. I got these results from your tool.

Browsing is intermittently slow and sometimes its impossible to even load my broadband.
The internet also dies when the phone rings. But I have changed the POTs filter on the telephones
Any advice would be appreciated

Zertop's "Is it my Line" Results
Basic Report:
Your packet loss was 0 percent.
Your average ping was 20ms.
Your maximum ping was 309ms.

Looking at your average ping, your line seems to be running perfectly,
Looking at your maximum ping, however, it seems as though there could be a serious intermittent fault on the line. This could be a cause of an issue. Please post the results (at the end of the program) into the forum for advice.

There is one intermittent spike there - but nothing hectic?

Have you also made sure to change the POTS filter on your alarm? If its one of those alarms connected to the phone lines - then that could cause issues :)

Those really do look horrible - so unfortunately you will need to report a fault :/

The alarm has a radio link. So no pots filter.

But I think my problem lies with my SNR. Web Africas tool reports it as 5.5dB:eek:

Funny issue. I tried to run the tool, it requested a update. Applied the .EXE update, ran it again, asked for update once more. Tried running the .ZIP one this time, same result. Looks like the update is not happening. This is on Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Hmm... lemme check that!

EDIT: Mine doesn't seem to have this issue o_O. Did you download the files from the first post here?

Tried again, and it said Update skipped, make sure you are connected to the Internet.
