This is a friend of a friend story so please bear with me

Anyway a guy tells me thats his friend only has time to watch dstv on the weekend because he's always working etc, He says he calls dstv on a friday to connect and on a monday to disconnect so he only pays for the weekend viewing... is that possible ?
he apparantly does this every weekend so his bill is alot cheaper...

Yes it is possible... My girlfriends parents uses this method... but, they only pay dstv when the holiday starts... and then it gets discontinued after school holidays finish. It works out a lot cheaper.

Personally I never heard of the Weekend thing before, but I think its possible.

I dunno how it's possible when the DSTV premium package is like R500 ........ with no breaking up of that R500

yeah, how does that work?

cause if it work, and i go away for work/holiday for a month, i can just disconnect, and re-connect when i come back home? and then not pay for that period?

I believe there is some or other connect/disconnect fee, something like R50 a pop. So thats R200 a month, plus the (R500/31*8) = R129.

So it's possible that is is cheaper, if in fact it is R50 per disconnect.

I would say they build someting in there to recover, maybe that re/disconnect fee. Since far more people would do it and it would be an admin nightmare for them.

Would be cool if you could do this... like just turn on DSTV for the big games or on selected weekend.

Like pay per use.

I did this in the past until they caught on - then they said you could only disconnect evry 30 days

So you could only switch off on a monthly basis.

After that I told them exactly what to do with it

Debit orders are prepared well in advance of date of collection. So if you are using this method of payment it would make it very complex to turn it on and off

The Reconnection fee is R50, daily cost is R16.63 (499 / 30). So you'll be charged for every re-connection.

Unless it is a secondary smart card/ holiday home. Then re-con fee is waived.

You switch to easyview and don't pay any reconnection fee.A lot of people do it.
